VIDEO: Our 1870 Root Cellar~

A quick look at our root cellar circa 1870! We love it and think you will too! Thanks for watching! Be sure to watch our vid on how we harvested over 250 pounds of Yukon Golds with only 2 rows this year! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKkNKFTfUsM&list=PLbk7gxgV7R8ZCopF-_kGUKB-e4WsM0c7z&index=3

  1. Such a beautiful home!!! You are truly blessed to be in the situation that you were in to obtain such structure and property not to mention the history that goes along with that it makes me so happy to see how proud you are to show it off I may still be a young man but I was raised through heritage, thank you so much for sharing this and I hope you understand and take full advantage is everything your house is because it's a lost soul but it will keep you alive through anyting it gives back!!!!

  2. Fun to explore – I find that household stories often get perpetuated as fact for a lifetime. I am guilty of it but ask around. The “shelf” was certainly nothing more than a structural accident; usually base footings are widest to minimize settling before going narrow and vertical to sill plate. The stairs were likely replaced at some point – at least treads above and looks from beneath that work was done. My neighbor had a hole in back of stone house which was for ice block delivery – I believed it because I saw how it went directly into original small “refrigerator box”. Ice guy probably had an arrangement with some customers and had snack and beverage perks 😉 Not sure most of us would want access to stuff at back of our refrigerator.

  3. Truly amazing! To make a root cellar was a lot of work back in those days! Not only is it great for keeping your potatoes, onions, etc., and your canned foods, but is also a wonderful tornado shelter!

  4. It is beautiful! And I love that you use WISDOM in what you show. Cannot for life of me understand why people post all their stored goods, location, and tours that basically give blueprint of their homes. I enjoy your videos so much because you have God given common sense.

  5. That is really amazing. Root and storm shelter all in one. It's made beautifully. You were blessed to find it. Thank you for sharing it with us Patara.
