VIDEO: How To Propagate Blackberries Easily by Layering (and other berries)


Please read: This video shows you two fantastic layering methods of propagation to create new blackberries and other berries (see others below). The two methods are tip layering and simple layering. They are very simple and you will have plenty of new plants in about 3 months. Watch to see the complete process from layering them to digging up some of the successful cuttings and planting them into pots.
The video features loganberries however it is exactly the same with blackberries.

  1. You can use these methods for black raspberries as well – I managed to get good results with a Bristol and a Jewel – enough to the point that I got a bunch of laterals I tried it with, and those have done nicely. Going to be interesting come next year.

This is brilliant – I had no luck with simple layering on my loganberries last year and wanted to try tip layering, but instructions in books etc. never make it clear whether you have to strip the tip back first or not – now I know to bury the entire tip – I'm going out to do a few now – many thanks for a clear and concise video.

  3. Actually, layering (simple or tip) DOES work with raspberries that have trailing canes, not such self-supporting upright canes as Heritage Raspberries, on which air layering works a treat.
