VIDEO: GGC – 46 – DIY Winter Camper Van Mod: The Kitchen Sink

For our second winter living full time in our camper van, Paula wanted to be able to use the kitchen sink like normal, even though our plumbing is winterized. She’s so demanding. Here’s the solution that we came up with.

  1. Only potential problem I can see is the drain hose and container getting pretty smelly over time. I guess everything is small and inexpensive enough to simply replace them if need be – hopefully that wouldn't be needed too often though! Enjoy your videos.

  2. Very inventive solution! Did you plug the open line going to the grey water tank to keep odors down? If your portable grey water tank gets scummy/smelly you might try a bit of lemon juice. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Just a suggestion . . . you might want to stuff a small cloth or even a paper towel in the open end of the pipe still connected to your grey water tank, just to keep any odors from migrating back in to your living space. Even though it's not the black water tank, water and bacteria can still go stagnant and be unhealthy to be breathing.

  4. If you did not cap the drain you may want to. Just the grey tank so smell should not be a problem unless your tanks share a vent. Mine do so I have to keep my traps full or I start to get venting in the van. Some grey tanks develop odors as well.

  5. genius solution!!!  however…I think if it were mine, I would want to put a sandwich bag and a rubber band over the open pipe left from removing the J trap.  just to keep any smell or whatever from coming up into the van…but that's just me.

  6. It looks nice. We did something similar with a two gallon and it works well. Do you have problems with the J in the tubing? Our tube drains straight in, but I have to filter by hand when draining into the bottle when getting ready to dump.

  7. I noticed in a recent video that you have a unique table leg for the back of the van. Did you create this or did you purchase this? It was bent and could go over the bed. Can you do a video about that or at least tell me where you got that leg. Thank you.
