If 80% of your crops are tomatoes and lettuce, how do you grow lettuce in the summer?. Doesn't high temperatures cause lettuce to taste bitter or just a poor flavor in general. Or do you strictly grow in spring and fall to avoid high temps?
I have watched the urban farming movement alot lately. Obviously I watch your channel. But I've noticed you guys don't do stuff like asparagus, potatoes, watermellons sweet corn ect. And for obvious reason……space. We could no way survive on just salad greens. And even talking tomatoes it looks like you do a bunch of the grape varieties. Those are a bust here as well.
As the other poster said it really depends on your market and demand.

Curtis, In the news lately there has been a lot of talk about a large scale aquaponics wharehouse being built in my market. It looks like they will specialize in some of my higher margin items like salad greens and herbs. I'm afraid of how this may impact the prices of produce in my local market. Have you ever experienced this type of competition along your travels? If so, how have the local farmers had to adjust in order to remain competitive? Thanks for all the great advice and keep up the good work!

Love the video. How do you find different markets to sell to?How do you market your crop if youre new to the scene?
Curtis, how about a farmers market,I mean have you tried selling at Farmers Markets with running couple different stands? I mean in 3 or 4 stands with hired personnel on daily basis.
The other problem with only growing one or two crops is disease. Last year we had a blight that wiped out our tomatoes and potatoes. If they were the only crops we were growing…
Where do you go to find out what people want or need in your area?

Hi Curtis, Some great tips as always. This part of checking if there is a marketplace sounds most complicated I guess the best thing to do is live in the area where you want to have farm first for at least few months and than think about getting access to some land in that area.
hey great videos. I have been farming to much variety and am relearning salad mix after not doing it for 5 years. Could you explain your planting schedule, seeding and weeding practices that create your rows compatability with the auto harvester? I mean if they arn't gaurded secrets of yours. Thankyou!

Curtis, does it make sense to consider that when looking at scalability the value of additionally considering complexity … complexity of market, the complexity of competition and cycles, timing and the numbers of different variables against the risk when scaling any particular scope of product and production choices? Alternately, when deciding to scale anything, we’re really looking at a much different scope to be considered. In this way risk is managed and would also speak to values in diversity, marketability and what is required, as you say, how many different outlets and ways in which to market intended scope of product And its appropriate scale. ROI can change dramatically for a number of reasons, yes?
