  1. Nice video, my patio is at max capacity with plants lol. The only thing I tend to have trouble with are cucumbers. Last year I still grew 40+ cucumbers from pots, but I think the almost daily rain takes it's toll on them. Last year it rained 77 out of 80 days or something insane. So far, this year has been very rainy. I've had my plants in the pots for 3-4 weeks now and have only had to water them one time.

  2. great video on a topic that I don't see enough people talking about… I have extra plants that I started that I don't have space for in my raised beds, so I plan to supplement the garden with some pots like this to give the extra plants a home so that my dinner plate stays full all season.

  3. I stopped using clay pots for veg two years ago. I now use cloth pots and Rubbermaid containers for wicking beds or containers. I have also made containers using landscape cloth and ventilated carrying totes creating a form of cloth container.

Greta info Luke. I hope all is well down there.

    Cheers
    Harold

  4. Thanks Luke. I have the same size large plastic pots as you & planted regular (non 'patio') size tomatoes in them. Do you believe this will restrict growth? My yard is small & after repeated planting tomatoes in same spot = viruses/fungus. Hopefully I can keep them healthy this way!

  5. Methane is an actual greenhouse gas. CO2 is mostly buffered and utilised by (and to the advantage of) the billions and billions of fauna on the planet, and the man made component is tiny compared to what nature puts out anyway.

Global warming, such as is influenced by man, is not caused by you cooking your dinner or warming/cooling your home. It's not even caused by you driving your car.

Take a look in your wife or girlfriend's wardrobe if you want the answer, or if he has one, your husband's "man cave". Take a look at your average mall – primarily useless junk aimed at women and their vanity. It's that endless over-consumption of crap that's harming the environment. Not basic electricity use.

  6. The eco scraps potting mix I got is all in clumps nothing like yours. Is that normal? I just assumed it has a lot of compost. I bought their compost too but haven't used it yet.

  7. I would love to watch more videos on patio/apartment planting! I am a veterinary student who wants to start growing veggies on my balcony. Do you have any suggestions on what are good vegetables to grow on a balcony in northern CA, especially for someone who has no idea what they are doing? Any beginner guide's book you recommend? Thank you!

  8. Great video. i need to look into that product. How many broccoli, cauliflower or cabbage plants would you add to that midsized container?? I've got 9 extra plants that need homes or I need to plant them closer than 12-18"!!

  9. Thumbs up.  Excellent info.  If possible another thumbs up to EcoScrap.  A while back we found our self needing more soil and compost.  Of to Lowes we go, and found bagged EcoScrap organic, OMRI listed garden soil.  First purchase, a dozen, then we went back for 15 more 🙂 Some of (it second time) were for my daughter's little garden.

  10. I have tomatoes in a 2 gallon pots and they are growing flowers already, will I hurt the pant if I transplant to a bigger pot???? My first time growing. Thank You

  11. real important now to prevent mosquitos from laying eggs in the water trays under planters…check out the Stillaset  mosquito planter skirt. now need to worry about when the plants are brought inside too. apparently the mosquito that carries the Zika virus is also indoor and aggressive day biter. any young women in the home…need protection.

  12. With the lettuce and greens, once you sprinkle the seeds out do you want to cover lightly with more potting soil? Sorry I'm new to all this but am very interested and cant wait to try.

  13. This may be a silly question, but it’s early spring and I’m in northern IL, it’s definitely not warm enough to do this yet. Can I put a container of lettuce as you showed out during the day and bring it in when it’s too cold at night? I’m itching to grow greens in a container, maybe a cold hardy spinach?
