  1. Cutting the plastic to width while it's still on the roll is also an option. Then you just roll out the mini rolls and cut to length on the beds. I just use the 4' wide Dewitt Sunbelt and let the rows overlap. Since the rows are 30" and the walkways are 10" even when a covered row is next to a direct seeded row the plastic doesn't intrude on the next bed; The covered row is covering 9" of the adjacent walkway on either side. I do cut plastic housewrap while it's still on the roll to make row sheets though and it saves the hassle of cutting a long straight line.

  2. Thought of the same idea more the 20 yrs ago. I used one of those electric cattle dehorning burners but it only made one size hole and was a lot slower and harder on the back and the material would stick to the iron sometimes. There is a prophecy in the bible, book of Isaiah that in the future every person shall sit under their own vine and their own fig tree and no one shall make them afraid. I firmly believe they will be practicing agriculture in much the same way as is taught by Curtis Stone.

  3. I am so on board with this burning technique. One thing I would like to add. Plywood. Does the wood eventually char and need replacing? Either on the circle templates or the straight line one? If so I would look into making them out of cement tile backer board. Specifically Hardibacker. It would be immune to flame so never need to be replaced and you can get damaged sheets for cheap at the home center. You would need to use a grit edge hole saw to make the holes but it might be worth the investment as you would never need to re-make your templates. Just a thought.

  4. Love your ideas for using this material and am using them now in my home garden. I looked at this one and immediately thought that if you had an upright section on the slotted board you could use some zip ties or other method to attach the torch directly to the rig and just drag it along like a sled. No need to re position the each time. Just modulate your speed and cut the entire length in one long pass. The board could be much smaller also as it only needs to accommodate the area of the flame tip to be effective. I also am putting in a link below to the Hot Knife I have been using. Works very well, cheap and like they say cuts "like butta". Just something to think about (sorry aboot, Canada eh).

  5. Just a question: if you buy these materials on a roll, it might facilitate matters if you cut to width while it was still on the roll…wouldn't it?

  6. A faster method which I use is to cut while still rolled up using a hacksaw. Using heat while cutting on a roll will stick the edges together.  A hacksaw with a fine blade wont  . Job done in 3 minutes and no fuel burnt .Love your work Curtis

  7. Love the videos – truly inspiring and informative! Just a thought – how about instead of a 3 ft roll just get a 4 ft roll so you have the extra foot and burn the holes in one side leaving a full foot intact on the other end.

  8. how about pre-cut the length, roll up on a spool to spool rig above a cutting table, use 2" hole saw in reverse, insert in the pattern plywood guide. this prevents the contamination.
