  1. @appalachiashomestead have you ever tried or looked into the food saver method. then storing them in the buckets. i wonder if that would make them last longer?
    any thoughts

  2. just curious why you have to freeze for a week. seems like 24 to 48 hours should be plenty of time to kill off anything…but maybe not? I can't tell you how much I am enjoying your videos. Just found you last week via starry hilder. you are a natural in front of the camera. what you are doing with your chickens is just beautiful! I grew up in a rural part of GA but live in San Diego now. Love being in the city and what it has to offer but I want to teach my children a bit about what I grew up with and around! thanks for taking time out of your busy day to enlighten the rest of us curious ones!

  3. Great info! Don't forget the LDS cannery, I think there is one in Knoxville. I rotate out my flour, beans and sugar that we get from them. So short term and long term storage. Thanks for your hard work!!

  4. Great video and great short/mid term way to store food without a lot of hassle and special equipment. I like how you mentioned, in a year if you haven't started eating these then you will can them. Such an important thing to mention. That you can do this sort of method but then switch to a longer term method later.

  5. Patara, the one Achilles heel to my homestead is my animal feed. I am very dependent on my local co-op for feed and am looking for ways to be more self sustainable. What do you think about growing Fodder? Have you ever tried it?

  6. I love this channel it's so high speed and low drag. My wife and I are going to start this process with our new big deep freezer!

  7. I'm not sure if anyone has asked this question but when you get to the bay leaves do you just throw them out when you get to them? Or do you use them in your soup pot while you're making your soup ? What's the fate of the bay leaves they are very expensive where I live.

  8. You have the greatest smile, a hilarious sense of humor, and a wonderfully approachable manner while imparting VERY important information and answers. I look forever to every one of your videos! With that said, I love Ms. Homestead Lady! These vids are fabulous!

  9. I am new to your videos and I enjoy them. If you store your beans in the bag, can you put more than one kind of item in the bucket? For example, could you do rice, beans, flour, and sugar – like a survival kit?

  10. to can the beans do you have to cook them? Do you have a video on how to can them, I want to know how but never have do it before and have no one to show me:(
