I am so glad to have finally located this old recipe! I hope you try it out!

  1. A girlfriend from jr high that was being raised by her grandma use to make this. I mention the grandma because she had to have been more in the early 1900's she was elderly circa 1975. I LOVED the pie the first time I ate it. My mom even though born in 1915 had never heard of it. I am definitely going to give this a whirl, as I have often thought of the taste of this pie over the years. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Everything except the apples and clear gel…This is almost the same as my apple pie filling that I canned up the other day! There is one in the oven as we speak! Im gonna add dehydrated apple pieces next time…

  3. I am going to use one cup of apple juice, and not use one cup water.. Also I think I will add to this recipe one, or two tablespoons of apple jelly… I love your dog as I am a big time dog lover..

  4. Straight up Patara, that looks DELICIOUS! Why do I watch your cookin' videos too late at night for me to begin cooking all over again. Thanks for posting this pie. I'll get to it tomorrow!! If I hadn't spent most of the day making Garlic dill pickles and pickled radishes, I'd probably go make this right now.

  5. Oh Miss P…..nasty old rainy afternoon here AGAIN in NC, and what better thing to do, than to bake me up a "Poor Boy's Apple Pie?" Oh for Pete's sake, it is just stupid good!!!!!! It's almost embarrassing how easy it is to make, and the taste equivalent is off the charts!!!! I just don't see how something so quick and easy could taste THAT good? Thank you dear heart, for sharing this wonderful recipe with us! I'll be making this one frequently.

  6. Patara I watched Brenda Gantt make one of these pies a few weeks ago. She put saltines in her pie. Only thing I can figure with this is maybe a texture thing. I am going to make yours soon!
