  1. Hey man, I agree with the folks saying to put them directly in the ground. lve been cloning for 5 years and it the easiest and gave me the most successful results. I have had to start putting duck tape around the stem at ground level with the sticky side out to stop pill bugs and worms. good luck man

  2. If you dip the stems in a white powder product called "Rooting Hormone" before putting them in pots; they will root and grow much faster. Vitamin B solution also helps. Both are available at garden supply centers.

  3. Curtis I use sun grow seed starter for my cloning this yr when I planted the first green house I lost a large amount of my one tomato called Rose from Johnny seeds the plants that took off I grabbed the suckers stuck them in the sun grow and 95 % of them are growing and will be replanted in the open spaces in a couplel weeks I've used this method and it works really well because I'm allowing the roots to get a good start and there not disturbed I use the 6 pocket 2×2 packs.

  4. Great Video! I am looking forward to trying this, this year, once our 4 feet of snow goes away that we have on our mountain homestead…it is now mid-April and we are finally getting some warm sun, but it is supposed to snow next week, again. Our snow usually doesn't go away until June. Can't wait to have some hoop houses this summer, so we will be able to start our planting earlier next spring 🙂

  5. Hey Curtis, I like putting my suckers down into a neutral soil inside of a cup in order to make them quit to transplant, we actually root faster if you can use something natural like aloe plant, honey, if you are looking to stay away from rooting hormones. you can do it without aloe or honey of course. but keeping the stems away from light where you want the roots to start is best, plus you won't risk damaging the new roots inside a cup. super quick way to transplant and propagate faster.

  6. Have you looked into rooting hormones aka cloning gels? I do it for a living; I use clonex, but I am trying rootech(which is made in Canada) because it is a little cheaper than clonex and also has a higher hormone concentrate than clonex. Cloning may sometimes be more profitable than buying seeds all the time. I've used aeroponic systems and the ol' propagation trays with humidity domes. I prefer aeroponics myself, the quality of your clones is much better in my opinion; I've seen much higher success in rooting with aeroponics and you can let your clones stay in the cloning machine for an extended period of time in case you fall behind somewhere or whatever reason you have and your clones will actually start to grow while in the machine if they have already rooted well. I started using clonex cloning solution last year and have had best rooting times and results I've ever seen with their solution.

  7. Hey Curtis, love all your videos. Just wanted to share with you my cloning process. I do the same principal with the suckers but I make sure I have at least four nodes before taking off the vine. I cut the first two nodes off and cut the bottom close to the bottom node, this allows easy access for rooting, learned that off one of your videos. I cut any blossoms off but keep the main stem untouched. Next step is to dip the 3 cuts into any root starter (I use a liquid organic seaweed mixed with water – be careful not to make it to potent as it can burn it). Then soak the soil thoroughly with water then plant them straight away. Also do one more water after planting to set them in. They will droop the first 4 hrs but that's ok. A week later they will take and grow, in 2 weeks I string them in the glass house. Hope this helps.

  8. PLEASE be careful around all those short stakes. Each one is an impaling hazard, imagine if someone tripped in one of your narrow walkways (another sort of hazardous condition) and fell on a row of tomatoes. At our farm, OSHA had us phase out short stakes all together and put caps on any stake below head height (this is rec cannabis so we use a LOT of stakes). They also wanted us to have 24" walkways but you know walkways don't pay the power bill.
I love your work, you're a huge inspiration. Thanks for all the videos.

  9. If I want to grow out a pruned sucker, I first let the sucker get about 1ft. long on the parent plant. I then prune it off, immediately dip the cut end in root hormone powder, then immediately plant the stem 6-8 inches deep, watering well. If this is all done quickly, then there will be less chance that the growing tip will wilt and bend over. Even with a bit of wilt, the sucker usually straightens up in a day or two. This type of planting should be done in late afternoon, when the garden may be in shade, or on an overcast(cloudy) day, never in the direct heat of the day.

  10. Hi Curtis,

    Hope you are doing great.

Can you please let me know what was your outcome on the cloning tomatoes, i saw in one of your video you kept them in water. Are you able to succeed in that? i didnt see any video which shows the results of that.
If you answer this will be great.

  11. We are trying to construct a similar lean and lower system in our high tunnel. What materials did you use to hook the tops of the plants onto? Our roof pearlings are too high to utilize. Thanks!
