I'm new, can someone explain zones to me?
Question: we have a very mature fig ( green with pink inside) it is very tall and huge trunk. We trim it down to single story house height every year. Can we trim it even further without killing it? It grows exponentially every year. The thing is out of control. This year, very little fruit is ripening. I think because there is so much foliage. We are in NW Oregon . Thanks for any help!
I live in north Jersey. I have a potted fig grown from a fig, about 4 feet tall. It has figs this year and looks very healthy but they have stopped growing and I don't know why. This is the first year it has abundant figs, 2 or 3 that fell off last year. I take it into the garage in the winter. I would like to plant it outside this fall but was told it has to be knocked down and covered in the winter. Is that true or may I just cover it with tar paper? Please advise.

What brand would be good for growing in Northern California, just south of Stockton? Our summers are extremely hot, 100 and over for weeks at a time, with cooling to the high 90's, all summer, for 6 months of the year.

Did you say which side of the shed it was on? I understood about varying amounts of light conditions, but I'm wondering if the southern side would be better for cases of winter survival
First year with producing in ground fig. 3 years old. Zone 7b raised bed, no winter protection. Maybe just lucky but I'm going to wrap this winter. Box store Brown Turkey. Looking for another cold hardy to try with more protection. Amy suggestions beyond Chicago Hardy?

Any idea what causes the leaves of the fig to turn brown?
A lot of people say Chicago Cold Hardy Figs can only grow down to zone 6. But that's just not true because I've had success in zone 5A with Chicago Cold Hardy Figs. I mean Chicago and all of Illinois pretty much is zone 5A which is -20° at most. The reality is you can grow Chicago Cold Hardy Figs in zone 5A because the root system is Hardy down to -20°. And as long as the root system is alive new growth will appear in spring and you'll have fruit by fall. So I really don't get the controversy over it especially considering my success with Chicago Cold Hardy Figs in zone 5A.
