Here’s an update about my solar system and how it’s performing right now. Check out the company that installed my solar: http://terratek.ca

lol where I live that's the dogs days of summer we hit 108 degrees here the united states where I live is the normal summer temperature
Do you have a battery hooked up to the solar system?
so why not go 100% microgreens?
You're so energetic in your videos. Keep rocking it!
Electricity to heat a greenhouse? Gads. Use natural gas or propane.
I would recommend using wind energy generators. They may help during the winter months.
How about putting some grow lights in the greenhouse next winter? You'll get extra light to get you stuff growing and their heat output isn't a loss because it contributes to heating the place. A good chunk of Holland is lit from greenhouses that use grow-lights, although they do also run gas heaters if I'm not mistaken, but then again they grow tomatoes and whatnot year round.
this isnt a trolling comment Curtis, but electricity production and consumptions are in kiloWattHOURS (average kW x the number of hours), and capacity is in kiloWatts. So total capacity on your roof is xx kW. The production in a given month is xx kWh. Your annual consumption is 35000 kWh. Loving the your lessons and the book a lot.
I think you mean 7.5 KW/day.. 75KW would be a solar installation of around 250-275 solar panels.
How much did that much solar cost? Im seeing here in the states a company for 6.0 kWats is like 15k
You should show your equipment inside-panel and how everything works.
Will you be doing a Q&A soon?
Curtis. Go ahead and add some panels on the green house. You'll probably save twice as much as you mentioned. Thanks for the update!
another awesome vid Curtis – as always, thank you much for what you provide. i've got a question: are there any Meetup/FB groups you'd recommend for "actual" urban farmers that share opinions/ideas? the one i'm in Indianapolis is mostly folks with 4 x 4 victory gardens who ask benign questions like "what is this squash?"
global warming
solar PV is proven over and over again, it's plain stupid to not do it this way. if you can't flat out buy it right out, get a loan, don't do a 20 year lease, own your system. I've calculated systems with ROI of 7.12 years, and after that they pay you for excess electricity generated. better yet go completely off-grid and tell your electric co. to F* OFF!
DIY powerwall with 18650 cells… 🙂
How do you keep pest out of your garden in the front yard????
ok I have a question about microgreens please answer me I really need to know lol I was wondering how long should I leave my grow lights on I'm planing on growing mine inside but I'm unsure about how long I need to keep my lights on
Wow! We are in Indiana and we aren't even that hot!
Hello Curtis, I am a subscriber, purchased your book and want to thank you for the work you do on youtube. Being new to gardening, I have learned much from you and am looking forward to continuing my education of gardening as well as learning to be less dependent on big business for my family needs. Thank you and keep up the good work !!
Hey Curtis, would a battery tied to your solar system help?
cool would rather see a zeropoint powered place tho they already exist the entire planet is one.
lol wtf 100F it's super cool here in louisiana wow 100F thats just O.o
Do you sell back to the grid (BCHYDRO) or just off grid?
you need to get Solar Generators to store energy and you don't need the power company or power lines !
HI Curtis, I did some estimates using RetScreen about 2 years ago, there are so many ways to evaluate the returns with solar. My question is: how is the BC utility treating you? Are the policies supportive of solar and is it Feed in Tariff, net metering or some other form of agreement? (i'm just starting this year by myself, making some of your five favorite mistakes… but trying to work through it ( what can you do without financing?). Anyway thanks for all your work, keep it up!
The outside temperature means nothing to Solar generation.
Its the cloud cover and apogee of the sun.
Always Add the Max panels.
I get a average check for 610.00 from the utility company each month that more than covers the 500.00 per month for the panels.
l would love to do that and love the idea of having the sun make power.
however…..
and maybe im missing something.
but my bill for our house here in Michigan is about $ 100 a month. At $15000 for the system it would take 12.5 years to start making money.
what am I missing ?
Greg in Michigan.
Hey Curtis, like the majority here really enjoying your videos (binge watching :)) and I think we're blessed with how much content you provide for free and how much we save by learning from your journey, thank you, thank you, thank you. Have also purchased your book, audio and digital tools as we have a 1/2 acre of land that I am planning to roll out your model on and am currently working on business plan and budgets. I do have 2 question please for you or others in this thread (apologies if you answered it elsewhere) about your utilities costs. Power – 30000 kw here in NZ would be about $5K (adjusted taking off $2K for househld consumption). When you started, say years 1 and 2 did you notice much of a spike in electric bill? Water – in one of your videos re water on a satelite block you farm you mentioned the usage was about 1000 cubic metres. If I'm right that's about 1 million litres. Do any of your prodigies have to pay for their water consumption? Worst case scenario for us (tank water) if we had to pay for 1000 cubic metres would be around $9K. Fair to say many NZ farms are becoming water farmers, conserving and collecting water. Many thanks James
