Don’t throw those banana peels away, put them at the bottom of your Spathiphyllums / peace lily’s / lipstick plants and watch them flower.

Many gardeners swear by the effect banana peels have on their flowering plants, particularly roses and peace lilies. Conventional wisdom is that the potassium in the peels — they are 42 percent potassium, a much higher level than most other substances — prompts better blooming. While potassium is one of three primary nutrients plants need to grow, its function is to facilitate the movement of water and nutrients between cells. It also strengthens stems and protects plants from disease with little direct impact on flowering. Because healthier plants produce more blooms, feeding them with banana peels can’t hurt. When plants are already in bud, you want to make the nutrients in banana peels immediately available in liquid form.
Bananas are well known for their potassium content, helping you stay healthy and get the nutrients you need. This is also true for the peels, which provide essential nutrients, including potassium, to plants when the peels begin to decompose.
Banana peels contain nutrients that are essential for healthy potted plants. As they decompose, banana peels add potassium as well as small amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and magnesium to the soil in a similar fashion as a slow-release fertilizer.

I don't think this is the right way to go as it might lead to fungal infection in the plant as it rots.
