VIDEO: Tomatoes, The Best Varieties?

Tomato varieties are hard to choose from with the thousands of different options out there. Today I go through 11 that I am growing this year, and talk a little about each variety while showcasing them. This will allow you to see what you can harvest if you grow these particular varieties in the future. I am located in New Jersey in Zone 6B.

Thanks for the kind words and support 😁🐕❤️

  1. Love your videos! My favorite tomato variety is Cherokee Purple. It has the richest flavor I've found and is perfect for sandwiches. It's also an heirloom variety.

  2. About thirty years ago a friend asked me to water his plants while he was on vacation. I saw a ripe cherry tomato and picked it. It tasted like a raisin. I ate every one. This was before I was into gardening. Does anyone know what variety it was?

  3. I grow the hybrid Defiant. It is highly disease resistant. It is a little more expensive seed but well worth the investment. More likely to have tomatoes during blight years and the flavor is spectacular. I don't like to spray for blight because it requires a lot of spraying during wet years. The only negative so far is that the flavor goes down a little when cold weather sets in. It gets a little more watery during cooler weather at the end of the season.

  4. James, you're kidding, right? With all of the Heirloom and Open Pollinated verities available you choose to plant hybrids. I know this is an old post, but come on now. 🙂
    OBTW, my favorites are:
    Mortgage Lifter,
    Roma paste (or San Marzano),
    Chadwick Cherry.

    Peace ✌

  5. I like to experiment so I wouldn’t mind planting a hybrid although now knowing to expect a different tomato I will be very curious to see what I get

  6. Something to consider with the mild tomatoes like the lemon boy or Carolina gold is slicing, salt and pepper, put some ginger infused balsamic vinegar on top. I then toast some low carb bread and coat with honey mustard and a slice of cheese on top of the mustard on each slice then eat. Delicious healthy late night snack

  7. James: excellent video. Learnt a lot. I would like to grow sweet slicing tmato for a good sandwitch. People have suggested to grow Better boy. Beefmaster. Big boy, Celebrity. I would love have your suggestions. What kind of SOIL I need to grow these?
Acidic or Alkaline? Please help. Next Year I will follow your instructions. Thanks.

  8. Same on the chocolate sprinkles! I was really disappointed with these in comparison to other cherry tomato varieties! The skins were really thick.. I ended up using them for sun dried tomatoes.. just to use them up. I liked pink flamingo, and sun golds the best out of the cherries I grew this year.

  9. Great video. My number 1 cherry tomatoe would be Super Sweet 100. However, I disliked the chocolate sprinkle so much that I took the plant out of the ground and threw it right away.
