When starting from seed there are just a few that you will never want to start early for any reason at all. They are guaranteed to not do well and are far better direct sown right outside where they can do far better.

  1. I am having difficulty with all of your never sow inside! It really depends on a lot of parameters. I do sow zucchini’s indoors, I sow squash indoors, I do sow cucumber indoors , I do sow beets indoors. Pls. check your facts.

  2. I sow n grow radishes and beetroot every year indoors using multi-sows cell method. Ref: Charles Dowding. Always great results. Only crops I direct sow outdoors is carrot and parsnip.

  3. Great info, thanks. I just read somewhere and now I can’t find it, maybe you can help. I know you said it in the video about squash, I’m curious about this though. If you start squash indoors instead of directly outdoors, they tend to be weaker and more vulnerable to vine borers. Is there any truth to that? Here in south Alabama, vine borers start showing in late June and are really bad

  4. What’s the difference between onion sets and onion plants? Like I shouldn’t start onions inside to transplant at all or just the tubular ones? I have some white onion I was going to plant for seedlings…

  5. So what can I star inside under lights in peat pellets (tomorrow) ? I just bought everything I need to start seed and now I hear this… Im thinking tomatoes and peppers but I dont want 72 of just peppers and tomatoes… when should I start all of the seeds you mentioned, outside? And when do I plant flower seeds? Springfield Missouri, I think im in 7

  6. I never bother starting some of these early indoors because they can be started easily outdoors and still have time to mature. I just don't want to bother with it because it's a pain to babysit them, transplant them, harden them off, bring them in and out in bad weather, etc. I do winter sow some in jugs but there is a lot less babysitting to do that way. With those I go right from jug to dirt and if we get a late frost or freeze I just throw a blanket over them 🙂

  7. What about starting and transferring some of these in peat pots? Things that disintegrate once they are in the ground, so you don't have pull the plant out of a container, or worry about damaging the roots?
