Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. Seems to me that a must after setting this up is to use something to tie around it several times at top, middle, bottom to bind it all together so shifting of dirt & logs doesn't push the walls out.

  2. I keep white vinegar in a dish soap bottle and apply it on the perimeters of garden beds to kill off weeds and unwanted grass. I also use it around my firepit to keep that area as dirt and safe from fire spread.

  3. We have a few of these. They have a threaded rod through the middle if u want to use it. – after 3 weeks one of ours blew out and split the metal at the bolt. So now we have a hole and split in the side of the long end of the bed- small but still it is a split that will only grow.

  4. They work well if you have a budget, the plastic is easy to replace with some thin angle and screws, i currently have close on 18 of them and they're around half the price of Birdies raised beds which I also have.
