Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. Have you considered writing a book? The great thing about books is that, unlike t-shirts and the like, even people that don't know about your channel will find it interesting/useful and worth a buy. Really the only reason someone would buy a t-shirt with your logo on it is if they were already familiar with your stuff, liked the design, and wanted to support you. With books, Joe Bob down the street will be interested so long as he thinks it will be informative.

  2. I only just got into gardening and don't have a huge garden to play with. I found your channel literally today and your content is great! I am going to follow your instructions to grow my own vegies. Thank you, and will keep following you.

  3. Absolutely love your work and the knowledge your sharing..so thank you..) but, i have a question about your logo?
…it it an intentional all seeing eye.. or maybe just a coincidence? ..no offence meant by the way..)

  4. Hey mate how's things? Just found your channel and have already subscribed and am really enjoying the vids and the lifestyle you have created. I would love to grow some of this stuff but live in western Sydney and not sure if the climate is as suitable? You say you live in the sub-tropics and maybe you have previously mentioned a town but if so I have not seen that vid? Could you tell me what general area of Oz do you live in? I am picturing if on the eastside anywhere between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour maybe even a little bit north of that?

  6. Your brilliant at advice, the way you put it across is easy for people to understand so transfer it onto paper with some brilliant photos and turn it into an awesome book. Your logo on the front cover will make it easy recognisable.Look forward to getting a copy. Good luck in your new adventure and I am sure it will work out really well for you. GO FOR IT

  7. I really love ur videos. I just started planting, i plant vegetables & flowering plants as much as i can in my balcony & indoors. Self suffient me & summer rayne oakes are my inspiration. Your quote, "you dont have to be self-sufficient in everything u just have to be self-sufficient in something" really hits the point.
How about doing workshops on planting, teaching gardening sessions & writing books?
Sorry for the long comment i just feel really grateful for ur videos.
With lots of thanks, all the way from myanmar

  8. Question about Kensington pride mango. My tree was full of flowers on each branch. With tons of fruitless about the size of peas. Then they all started to fall off. Until all were gone???? Any ideas?

  9. Mark I don't know how to contact other than this so could you tell me if you have done a video on what to start & pant in late February in Brisbane- sub-tropical to get ready for Autumn/ winter as I cannot seem to find anyone in Australia that has. Cheers Denise Geebung Brisbane

  10. You are maybe more important than you realize. Lots of us agree with & practice your teachings and life style, which could make a huge difference to Earth & nature. What sets you apart is that you have a personality very much like Steve Irvin. He was loved and what he loved became loved by a huge number of people. In other words, personality, spark, passion, zest, humor etc. makes a difference. (Not to mention the Aussie accent, which is endearing to much of the world.) I don't have those characteristics, but you do. Organic growers need somebody that the world can love and listen to and be lead by. It may seem over-the-top, but a "personality" is helpful. I may be wrong, but you could be that person. I wish you had your own TV show. Yes, I will support you.

  11. Mark, you have been a huge inspiration in my gardening, knowledge and one of my favorite channels to cheer me up. I am buying a SSM tank! Let me know where I can send my pic of it when I get it. Thank you!

  12. I realize that this is an older video but I wanted to make a comment. What you are offering your viewers is a valuable service of knowledge and experience, which can be priceless to some of us. Please don't underestimate your value. I'm a 61 year old female living in a place I hope not to retire in, but I appreciate and enjoy
your videos and hope to put your knowledge to work for me at a later time. Please keep the videos coming. I hope that you find your perfect balance for both you and your family. Thank you!

  13. I'm still young (13) so I have no money. I would support you on Patreon if I get money. I would really like to. You continue inspiring me to work in the garden. Thanks, Mark.
