I just ordered seeds from you and I’m so excited to try all these methods I’ve been binge watching! Thank you, Luke!
Luke, do you recommend using cardboard under the woodchips.
This is something i really struggle so now i have some info
Video was way too long with too little Information. Too much talk about other Topics not directly connected to your Video theme. I like your content but this was a waste if my time.
straw does not come from hay, but it does come from wheat. (9:50)
No free chips here in Canada where i live, paper mills still buy them and many farmers too.
I have an abundance of leafs and I use a thick layer of them as mulch. I put some woodchios over the top and it breaks down over time.
Straw is not the byproduct of the hay lol! Straw is the byproduct of harvesting grains, so no weed seeds are in it. Straws are great for mulch especially in beds, because they degrade faster than wood chips.
Thank you I didn't know the difference between shredded and chipped.
how far deep are your beds? I am planning to put 2 in my backyard. Please help
Quick question: do organic mulches open up the possibility for certain insects to live on, insects that could be harmful for your crops? Maybe you don't have that problem because of the colder climate? I remember seeing something on those line in a video from CodysLab (maybe you know about him)
Sorry to batter you , but I have a question: my seeds have something like white on top of the container. Can you please tell me what to do to fix this problem? Thank you for your attention.
What about rocks?
Our dump doesn’t charge for wood dirt etc to drop off they use it at fill layers they have piles of different stuff
Luke, straw is the bi-product of GRAINS, not hay. It will have grain seeds, not so much weed seeds because the farmers use Round-up. A known carcinogen that has been banned in Europe. Sure don't want that in an organic garden! Back before Round-up I used straw ONCE and never again because it was growing wheat like crazy.
I moved to Indiana and heard this might not be possible… but today the city hired a tree trimming company to trim the trees on the street. I asked them if they sell their chips and they asked if I wanted them! They needed to get rid of them. So now we have a truckload of wood chips! Score!! Thanks for the great tip!!!
Any issues with artillery fungus when using fresh wood chips?
what about the use of straw?
This year I am trying out sheet mulching. I’d never heard of it previously (my mom had more of a green thumb), so I’d be toiling away, weeding & weeding. Basically, I’d be killing my back, and I already have back & neck issues. I have enough plans & projects I want to work on this spring & summer, so after hearing about sheet mulching, I am giving it a go through all my gardens. Now, if only I could get my tough sandy Cape Cod soil to grow better grass & not weeds.
Sounds like you are doing Back to Eden gardening from Paul Gautschi. Have you viewed any of his work?
I use straw and the wheat grass grows just enough for the cats and dig to munch. Lol It breaks down and improves this clay like soil we have. So far my favorite
A tree chopping guy dropped off a load of cedar chips mixed with the leaves for us about a month ago. Some people say cedar chips are really bad, others say it’s good, and then there’s me with no idea.
I have weeds growing up in between my rows of produce so I just plopped some of the mulch in between the rows and not on the actual plants. Have I committed garden suicide or is it fine? Luke? Anyone?
Why no wood chips in your beds? Is that not an easy soil amendment over time and a good mulch for the off season?
I am from south Louisiana be careful with free chip mulch you could infest your yard with termites
Is there anything underneath your woodchips? Like cardboard? OrWas it just placed on grass? How deep are the chips?
One more question, do woodchips bring in cockroaches?
Hey Luke, what do you use to mulch inside the garden beds?
I like the mulching and weed in the garden.
Luke, what are your steps after one season, do you remove the mulch to remineralize as in the other video?
