You can be going at it hard year after year getting the same harvests, but never planting for the future. Having the right mindset and the right gardening philosophy is what will dictate how successful your garden will be.

James, do you not have squirrels and other critters that come and 'inspect' and dig your seedling cups? I am amazed that you can leave them out there undisturbed. That is my headache every spring.
I love your videos. I am from Vancouver bc .This year I bought my 4th dwarf grafted fruit tree that has 5 different grafted fruits on it. Green Gage plum,shiro plum, nectarine,peach and apricot 🙂 I also bent all the branches downwards to train the branches to grow downwards for easy fruit picking. I'm just a container gardener but I love how many things I have growing in very limited space. Happy spring 🙂

Do you spray your nectarine tree to combat leaf curl? I’m in San Francisco so my peaches and nectarines start blooming in late February. The problem is it continues to rain especially this year we got hit with some heavy rain. Fruit is developing but all the leaves have leaf curl. I don’t want to spray so will try covering them with a tarp next year to see if that’ll prevent it
I'm helping a friend start a food forest like yours in Sydney, Australia. We put down 30m3 of woodchips, set up a bathtub worm farm and sprayed the whole area with worm tea. There are heaps of birds in the area so we have a bird bath and feeder to attract them. They are dropping manure everywhere so fingers crossed it breaks down well over winter! This is what happend one year In 2005 my dad ate a bag of cherrys the throw about 100 seeds out but they did not survive one at a time the trees were dying the squirrels were eating them and when my mom was weeding she pulled allot of them up but there was one in the bushes that mom/squirrels couldn't reach it grew and grew and just this year-2018 it blossomed me and my dad couldn't believe it it has been 2005 plus 13 years is 2018 so it's 13 years old now can't believe it !
Planted plums, cheries, honeyberries, blackberries and today seaberries and jujube's. But there will be more. Trying to invest in my families future and my retirement.
Thank you so much for showing how you plant your seeds into the mulch by pushing the mulch back to the soil level and adding a seed at a time in a row. I have the beginnings of a food forest with fruit & berry trees and strawberries and different perennials like daffodils and onions and berry canes and grapes, but I was so confused about the direct sowing of seeds and how that works with the mulch. So this video was tremendously helpful for me. And it makes so much sense! Super simple. Thank you so much!
