Ah, basil…the “Kingly” herb. If you want a never-ending supply of basil, you need to learn how to grow basil from cuttings. In this video we’ll go over the technique I use every time I clone basil.
There are other methods, such as rooting in water, but I find this one has the highest success rate for me and the most flexibility – I can transplant these rooted basil cuttings into any growing system I want. Soil, hydroponics, aquaponics…anything.

You should try Holy Basil aka Hot Basil. Krapao/Grapao
Awesome yard, man. Thanks for the advice on cloning basil.
There was no magical link to click in the corner to get to the basil pruning video, but I found it anyway 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHZe5sEmtSo
Has anyone tried this using the coconut coir/peat mix?
Exactly the information I needed today. If you partially shade basil you'll get bigger leaves. Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-uLwapyCUo
Very cool video! Thanks for the tip! Very helpful. 🙂
Here in my garden, with my new basil clones. I just bought 7 new raised beds to grow all these seeds that I bought. Its all about the fooooorrrage.
Any tips on how to keep indoor basil plants small?
I'm doing this and I have a consistent high failure rate. The roots rot or the leaves wilt. Maybe I'm using the wrong kind of basil, or it's too hot in my room (25C)
Not enough info.. How long until it roots? Where are you leaving that box with the herb inside or out? What temperature should the environment be or what is ideal? Is the material your planting them in cost effective? As I've had high success with just water
What does the cube do
Why not just in water?
My store basil propogation is really just 1 stem and I just moved it into soil 3 days ago after almost 3 weeks in water but it looks like the growth has slowed. I only water it if the top soil has started to get dry. I just hope it continues to grow – if I'm doing anything wrong pls do let me know.
Fantastic! Thank you!
Super clear instructions, my mom will be psyched!
I think I love you man.
Very helpful, thank you
This video changed my life
OMG 3:34 you shook the BABY !!!!
🙂
Really lovely video. Wondering if can directly put the cuttings into ground instead of water? I had mixed results with that. Thanks.
Hello a question can you tell can we have basil roots in sponge and can we have. Basil roots from short thick strem and without rooting hormone can we have root's
Mine doesnt grow roots. Pls help
The basil leaves were turning grey, what could be the reason. Initially they were green .
I live in South America, subtropical climate so humidity is high. I just leave my basil cutting in a small jar of water until it roots!
Are you seriously growing plants in blocks of Rockwool insulation? Are you insane? You know they use formaldehyde to make that, right m
Great video, thanks!
Tossing them in water is the easiest way , just change out the water every few days. Use non chlorinated water. Took mine about 8 days to start growing strong roots , didn’t use any root starter.
Thanks for all the info. If part of a plant goes to seed can you propagate it or does it effect the entire plant and future propagations?
Do you spray the cube with water every day while the basil is in the tray? Also, how long does it take for the basil to root? Thank you!!
