VIDEO: Cloning Basil: My Method for High Success Rates

Ah, basil…the “Kingly” herb. If you want a never-ending supply of basil, you need to learn how to grow basil from cuttings. In this video we’ll go over the technique I use every time I clone basil.

There are other methods, such as rooting in water, but I find this one has the highest success rate for me and the most flexibility – I can transplant these rooted basil cuttings into any growing system I want. Soil, hydroponics, aquaponics…anything.

  1. Here in my garden, with my new basil clones. I just bought 7 new raised beds to grow all these seeds that I bought. Its all about the fooooorrrage.

  2. Not enough info.. How long until it roots? Where are you leaving that box with the herb inside or out? What temperature should the environment be or what is ideal? Is the material your planting them in cost effective? As I've had high success with just water

  3. My store basil propogation is really just 1 stem and I just moved it into soil 3 days ago after almost 3 weeks in water but it looks like the growth has slowed. I only water it if the top soil has started to get dry. I just hope it continues to grow – if I'm doing anything wrong pls do let me know.

  4. Tossing them in water is the easiest way , just change out the water every few days. Use non chlorinated water. Took mine about 8 days to start growing strong roots , didn’t use any root starter.

  5. Thanks for all the info. If part of a plant goes to seed can you propagate it or does it effect the entire plant and future propagations?
