Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. I only managed to make it to the midday Anzac Day service this year. It felt odd because we lost one of the regulars to cancer at the end of last month. He was a veteran and his absence was deeply felt in the community.

  2. Great video focusing on what's most important. Warbirds were cool. C17 not as much spent to much time in those flying in and out of Iraq. What's a paw paw? We do apricot, peach, and Apple leather. Daughters eat it by the fist full.

  3. Amazing video buddy I'm glad I am a subscriber. He flew that War Plane and don't even have license to drive a car yet!! Amazing. Thanks for keeping me entertained.

  4. I love Papaya,,especially Papaya Banana smoothies with some sunflowers seeds,,yum. Love what you did turning it a dried edible, now that's AWESOME!
My Papaya are about 3ft now…gonna struggle in the winter though.
Thanks for the video my friend.
Great life tip at the end there.
    Warm Regards

  5. You are so lucky that you have a good relationship with your family. My circumstances are very different and I have no relationship with all but my sister and my niece. They didn't even come to my parents funerals. I do know that my maternal grandfather was a Gallipoli veteran. My other grandfather was a POW in WW2. My dad was a National serviceman so I know what ANZAC day means.

  6. Was fascinated that you call them pawpaws, as up here in Ohio we have a native tree called pawpaws too. I have a grove in my backyard that sprouted from the forest, but I haven't tried any yet since the deer and squirrels always beat me. Loved the video as usual Mark! Hope y'all had fun, and have more fun weeks ahead!

  7. Last year we tried to grow pawpaw from seed several but it never sprouted. We ended up buying pawpaw and throwing the seeds in the compost… bad idea.. we've got pawpaw sprouting in the compost and in the veggie patch this year xD

  8. Hey Mark, thanks for sharing your videos. It's so inspirational and something to look forwards to once we leave the Sydney rat race. Please keep sharing. Onya mate.
