Welcome to the second Vlog! There is so much to show you but I am saving a lot of it for the garden update which I hope to release next week. For now I had a focus on transplanting brassicas and leeks which has filled up the remaining beds. I also show you the Ruth Stout growing area and eat the first pea!

Loving the new format!
Brilliant as usual, Huw. I'm here in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. We are getting exactly the correct amount of rain. The tomatoes are doing very well. I really enjoyed the information about transplanting kale and leeks and I will definitely try it.
Appreciate the well made video the garden is looking great, do you collect water with rain barrels or anything?
I’m trying the mulching with hay, it’s working well, especially as it’s been so dry. Saving a lot of time and as I’m on Clay its making life allot easier, not having to move heavy dry earth. It’s also not disturbing the soil around the plot by earthing up and creating more space to grow. Slugs not been too much of a problem as used nematodes at start of season. Just once but got the population down.
You did incredibly well 🙂
Handsome brute! Amazing video. I've recently grew a huge strawberry bush and my lemon tree is growing!
We need rain here in the US also! We learned from Charles Dowding yesterday that Northern Britain is having a severe drought, so we are praying for rain for you all over there. Our garden is getting well water instead of heavenly water, but at least the plants haven't died. We have good cucumbers and squash right now, and some sun gold tomatoes, also green beans and baby bell peppers. Thanks for sharing with us. You're a blessing to many! God bless you!
Greetings from Dunedin New Zealand Huw ,winter but quiet mild this year 5-12c liking your informative vids .
I am starting my seedlings inside ready for planting late August .Yea still can get heavy snow or frost up till then so have blanket covers for young plants.
you mulch with hay including seeds right?
Hell! Yes we are struggling. The heat and drought lasts now for 4 weeks. Since then we had no rain. All harvested water is empty. I give very less water. But the cucumbers are bitter. I live in the southwest of Germany
A shame you had to water the Ruth Stout plot but what do you do? My experience with this method, or similar, is that as the years go by the soil is able to hold on to water much longer so during even protracted dry periods you don’t need as much water as you do when starting off.
Good video as always Huw.
So sexy
I'm waiting the vloggsssss
Hi huw good luck with plating
Hello Huw from London
Nice, new for me
Thick mulch of hay or straw, like in your potato bed, would prepare the soil by keeping it moist and friable. You wouldn't need a dibber, and you wouldn't need to remove the mulch before planting. You just poke your hand through the mulch and make a hole in the soil with your finger to plant the leeks in. The thick mulch helps protect the seedlings from the wind, and gives them support so they don't fall over, and of course also keeps them moist and relatively weed free.
Growing leeks in Wales ?!
I am so glad I found U .You are a free spirited
With awesome accent and a great looking inspiration. I love growing plants. It's beyond therapy. I love being in earth grounding mode. It's so relaxing. Like the moment of being"in the zone ". Looking forward of seeing you tomorrow.;)
Hi from malaysia..tho we are from different parts of the world and having different climates but i find your videos very interesting and informative..thank you so much for such great gardening videos..looking forward to watch more of your videos
Look at this shortened version, like in scientific writing such as "Enterococcus faecalis may be a coliform found in soil" (note I said may be found and not is found !!), Now I can say, "E. faecalis may be a coliform found in soil". Because I have already mentioned it, I can now use the shortened or abbreviated form such as Ruth Stout Adaptation Hay Mulched Bed = RSA Hay Mulched Bed or perhaps even shortened more to RSA bed. It is late, apologies if I didnt make sense. Great video.
I "Stock load" water in bottles during spring.
Would recommend you do the same.
Thanks
You need more compost
I love to watch your video. You're awesome farmer. You are very.good looking too and I love your accent.
Thanks a lot for sharing ur videos and knowledge, It’s great of you to share the knowledge you have with other people so that they can do the same thing, I think YouTube should have a way to send a direct message like a chat with in the channel so if people want to know something about you they can always send you a personal message through and box and you can apply them as well that would be great I don’t know how to do that but if somebody knows please suggest a YouTube to have and messaging box starter
Thank you!! I really enjoy catching up on all your videos!! Blessings from Virginia!
Thanks for a great video, even though its some time since posted! I was inspired by the planting of pumpkins in the hay, and wondered if it possible to plant in the straw that was used for bedding material at cows? So the composting has already begun, and then transplant pumpkins later this year.
Instead of the fabric could you have used carton maybe (knowing that the fabric is losing tiny particles over time)?
