VIDEO: Quick Crop Turnaround In Late Summer Before Fall Plants Sneak In!

In this video, I harvest my Spaghetti Squash bed at the end of summer, in preparation for a quick 6-8 week crop of lettuce and spinach before the beds have to be prepared for the fall planting of garlic. I utilize the no-till, no-dig, lasagna gardening method from start to finish!

  1. I usually use old paper bags for mulching. Do you worry about the "unknowns" of what is in the newsprint ink? Eventually, I suppose they could accumulate in the garden. I know they are supposed to be non-toxic….but so is Roundup. What do you think?

  2. I expanded my garden last fall and used the lasagna method (in the ground, not on raised beds). It worked great.
I alternated layers of leaf mold, compost, biochar and native soil, and the end result was way better than where I began

  3. Oh I wish I watched this before I cut down my beans – I did cut at the soil level, but put the 'debris' in the compost bin and covered the empty space with dried leaves until I was ready to plant something else…darn…could have saved those dried leaves!
