VIDEO: Straw Bale Gardening 32: Aphids, Peas & Tobacco Seeds

In this episode we start to consider the coming end of the growing season here in zone 5b. However, it’s not quite that time yet and there’s plenty of work to do. We check out some new seeds and harvest some as well. We check on a thriving colony of aphids and discuss how to get them to move along and I show off my fall peas and winter squash. Thanks for watching!

  1. I've grown peanuts just outside of Chicago. They take quite a while to mature. Make sure you keep the area around the plant weed free and when the pegs start shooting into the soil make sure that the soil is loose and fluffy. Other than that just follow the directions.
It is kind of cool to grow peanuts it's kind of like potatoes you never know what you're going to get.
I'm glad your hand is mending.

  2. Wow! That's quite the club you have on your hand! When I broke my fingers they splinted them — but that was back in the 70's, and they were clean breaks. As for Fall, I think of it as wonderful weather with beautiful scenery, and the beginning of planning for spring.
