Is the point of a high tunnel to increase your square footage under one roof, if so what would be the cost comparison with catapillar tunnels covering the same footage? Thx
Keep after it Young Bennett! There is a reason this kind of things are rare – people are used to cheap produce. I hope Pilgrim's Market gives this experiment time. It costs to take this kind of risk. It's counter-cultural and counter-intuitive. Thanks Curtis for profiling this! Young – it can get discouraging to learn as you go. I wish you well.
A very good video and inspiring. I can understand his hurdles, struggles, and frustrations in growing, selling, etc and being compared to big ag/food on pricing makes the margin for profit very scary for the smaller producer/business. I hope he succeeds in his endeavor. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Super cool to see this store/farm setup. Interesting to hear what is selling easily (baby greens) and to hear about how he ended up with too many peppers, how the excess is being handled, and his plans to grow different varieties in the future. Thanks for doing this interview!
Awesome! Too bad in the home of the "free and the brave" we have to deal with so many regulations and "mother may I's."
You can even make pickled peppers ☺️
Super Cool!
No no. Not that kind of "high" tunnel. All joking aside, this is a great idea and business model.
In addition to the peppers you are growing I would suggest also growing Anaheim peppers. They are really good. They are a little bit hot, but not as hot as Serrano….and they have a lot of flavor. Way better than a bell pepper. You can cook them in the over at 350 degrees for about 20-30 min and then the skin will peal off easily.
They (management/owners) need to understand that this “department” is an added benefit to the whole business. It’s a win-win. It may take a few years, but it’s an investment in the overall business. I wish them much success.
The gentleman you interviewed is a winner! Maybe not today, but he will be! I love people with confidence and skills to back it up! Great video!
This is so cool, my vision for the future of urban farming : Farm + Grocer Store + Café … and all in one location. Wishing them great success 🙂
What do you think of vermicomposting?
GRH
your off handed comment of cutting down the tree due to it is in your way? that tree is holding water and soil health for many years past and years to come . you want it gone so you can grow tomatoes and make money?! earth care, people care, fair share. stick to the ethics and you will prosper without destroying. keeping it real. take a moment and observe. the land will speak to you.
Maybe sell some of the serranos to local hispanic markets.
Have you been featured yet in your local paper? This would make a great story.
Such a cool setup!
Great video Master, Thank you so much.
does the store track metrics so they can tell how much of anything they need based on time of year?
And we wonder how our cities became food deserts….
Two min in ….he's gotta be a vet
Bravo from Paris ^_^
Is there a video about tearing down the burnt house
Curtis should have many more subscribers. The wealth of free information and interviews alone are amazing
"Silty loam" is considered to be the best agricultural soil type. I don't think he knows what that means…
Funky funky bumper music. Love it
my wife and I are setting a small organic farm just a few miles up the road in Athol Id on our 10 acre home plot, and would love to help the supply demand !!! and microgreens !!!!
