My tomatoes this year were all leaves and not as much tomato. I used compost very rich in nitrogen. Could that be the cause?

Huh? what does lightning have to do with it? I don't get thunderstorms until late June/July when the grass goes brown, its perfectly green in the spring.
What about soil bacteria? Nitrogen fixing crops? Lots of bits missed out.
