This Kale is easy to grow using the Kratky hydroponic method.

Kale is believed to be very nutritious and contains the antioxidant sulforaphane since Kale comes from the same family of plants as broccoli.
I usually grow Kale as a microgreen, the Kale mature leaf has a strong taste, the microgreen is much milder. But in this video I decided to grow kale using my microgreen seeds, and see what I got if I let it grow to maturity. It was easy to grow, and it tastes okay in the salad (not my favorite by a long shot).

  1. Thanks so much! Im Growing kratky kale and I’m having strange issues- some leaves are bright green almost yellow and others are deep purple red and brittle and dry. Leaves look sad. Roots looks good and plenty of water and fox farms hydroponic nutrients. Any thoughts?

  2. Hi Tikki O, your demo of comparing 2 methods of hydroponic system is very interesting. I am interested in growing veg this way as I live in a highrise apartment. Would any liquid plant nutrient do or must I get those for hydroponic system? Thank you and I enjoyed your presentation

  3. Thank you for the informative videos. I love how you show what plants look like at different weeks of their lifecycles, while being succinct to the point videos!

  4. Do you have to change the water every few weeks? In an aerogarden you need to change the water once a month, I was wondering if it is the same in a container.

  5. Hello Tikki. Thank you for your videos, I'm a beginner to hydroponics and find them very helpful. One question: do you have any issues with algae? I notice your containers in this video do not block out light.

  6. Do you change out the solution during the growth cycle……ive tried many times doing it just like your video, but after a couple of weeks but my solution gets cloudy….thanks for your help.

  7. Hello I am very new at this and I am having some success with basil and kale. I noticed today that there appears to be white fuzzy "mold" on my kale roots, or is this something else? When you pulled yours up on this video it looks similar, but I can't really tell. Also the roots are not "pristine" but sort of tan. The plant itself is about 6" and beautiful. Is there anything I can or should do at this point?

  8. Hi Tikki, do you really need to use the Hydroponic nutrients in the water when they havent shown any roots yet ? Would it better to save the nutrient water when the seedlings produce roots out of the rock wool ?

  9. Because your not using a pump for oxygen..is it necessary to leave a “ gap” between the cup n water level..?? Or is the water level touching the bottom of the cup??

  10. Ive just started Kratky hydroponics. I have abundant water bottles, so i cut off top bottle and use either end for a taller dome on top of rock wool. It works, and saves the baggies for other projects. Love your videos, you do a great job. Take care.
