  1. We had two polish earlier last year. Ut they both were so low on the pecking order that they wouldnt come down to eat or if they did manage to come down the wouldnt go to bed and we sadly lost them shortly after getting them. They were very neat and the rooster was our favorite because he reminded us of the penguin off of happy feet with the long hair haha.

  2. Well, watched this last night and stayed up the rest of the night chicken shopping. I didn't know I needed Bielefelders. But I'm worried about the feed efficiency on something that's primarily for eggs. Think I might get some Bielefelder roos to go with some Orpingtons ladies. Then see how the cross turns out.

  3. Our buff Orpington rooster was amazing. Good protector but not aggressive at all towards people. Never once chased me! He led a fox away from the hens and got killed, but all the hens survived.

Chicken math is real! Started with 6 chickens. Have had as many as 30-40 but have about 15 right now. Also now have 9 rabbits, 2 Pygmy goats, 3 mama boer goats, two baby boers-48hrs old, and the other two mama’s are due today!

  4. Around here we really have no need to get a catalog. We even have a chicken lady who has gorgeous black n white dappled chickens, and chicks are available yearly at tractor supply. I haven't raised any yet but the Orpington buffs my neighbor had were a gorgeous set of ladies.

  5. I am curious why you order so many different chicken breeds. I know you mention sustainability a lot in your videos and mixing breeds and hens and roosters makes it hard to control and know who is breeding with who. I wonder why you do not just find a dual purpose breed and grow a flock that you can sustain without the continual cost of buying chicks. Also I found buying/ordering chicks rather than having my chickens hatch them not only adds to the carbon foot print but also hen hatched chicks make much more hardy and happier chicks than ordering them from a hatchery, where they are much more stressed and most likely mishandled by the time they reach their destination.

  6. My favorite ever were plain White Rocks. They were great layers, about 25% were broody and excellent mothers. They were great foragers, good meat, friendly…. We got them on accident and loved them. Wyandottes have been poor layers and not hardy for some reason. I had a great mixed flock and I ended up breeding a great sex linked lavender hybrid. We adopted a dog that wiped them all out. It's been a few years, but I am thinking I am getting close to having them again.

  7. Watching this in October 2021, and got inordinately excited when Jess announced she loved Salmon Favarolles. Far and away my favorite breed. Absolute goofballs that are so entertaining to watch, and so pretty!
