VIDEO: Seeding Carrot Rows Using No Till Gardening – 2020

Fastest Way To Seed and Sow A Carrot Row! In this video, I show you how I sow a row of carrots for a winter quick crop before the spring and summer veggies take over the beds. From preparing the beds to actual sowing, this video will show you just how easy and fast no till gardening is when dealing with seed crops.

Quick crops are beneficial to fill in gaps during your grow schedule to take advantage of windows where your beds would simply lie dormant. Using a fast-growing crop like carrots to steal a harvest that you normally wouldn’t get! And because carrots store well, you’ll be enjoying them well after harvest, into the late spring!

  1. Hey Jeff! Question about when to thin carrots. I over planted a 5 gal bucket and harvested after many many week… the most adorable 3-5" carrots….truly "baby" carrots. But i thought i had crammed too many in that pot for them to grow to full potential. So… I prepped 2 more buckets and replanted them… splitting them between the 2 pots. LOL. So i am planning on re-harvesting again on St Patrick's Day for dinner. I will report back on this experiment. I have read that spacing them appropriately (with a grid) when planting yields a better result than trying to transplant (what i am doing) which is not ideal nor successful. Any thoughts between now and St Patrick's Day?

  2. I sowed a lot, but only some came out. Old seeds, and the birds make a real mess from the mulch here, killing young seedlings, and even decently big plants by digging the roots out.

  3. Well I guess I'm too late to plant carrots in zone 9a in mid June. I guess I'll just 3wIt until fall of January or February. OR…….can I still try it ?

  4. I’ve started using your sowing method with the seed starting mix and the straw with amazing results! Finally getting things to germinate. I have a question: I prepared the bed now (November) with 2” of compost and a blanket of shredded leaves. When I plant carrots in spring should I put the starter soil directly over the mulch or rake it away first?
