VIDEO: Cheap Plant Pots: HomeGoods vs. T.J.Maxx vs. DollarTree!

Where do you get your indoor plant pots? I hit up 3 popular stores near me: HomeGoods, T.J.Maxx, and DollarTree to see what the selection and price was…I think you’ll be surprised which won the battle!

I ended up getting 4 pots for $36 at T.J.Maxx and 2 hanging pots for $6 in my HomeGoods haul, so a total of 6 pots for $42, which is $7 per pot. I may end up drilling drainage holes in some of these as they’re solid bottoms and somewhat glazed, but for now I’ll just monitor my watering carefully.

  1. For people that's poor like me, can't afford buying not even at TJ Maxx or H.D… I would buy the ones from Dollar tree, there's also cute to me .

  2. Big time epic gardening fan here. Re: drilling holes in glazed ceramic: I haven't watched your drilling drainage holes video yet so forgive me if you cover this, but re: glazed inside and out. After much trial and error, I found that your need a reliable and modestly powerful cordless drill. Nothing expensive (I use this one for $32: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0881JYD1Y/). And the key is these drill bits called "hole saws" like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TO5F4A/. Often referred to as diamond drill bits, but not made with diamonds at this price point, ha. That said, they drill perfect holes through all ceramic, porcelain and similar materials.Easy once you get the hang of it, but takes some getting use to. You drill it at a slight angle with the edge to create a sort of guide indent, and then when it is sufficiently deep slowly tilt the drill until is perpendicular with the planter. Prevents the bit from sliding all over the bottom planter if you start out perpendicular. It sounds much harder than it is.

Anyway, love the content, making my life to much easier and more fruitful ;). Would love more indoor/container videos!

Also, love these planters. Very porous but stylish cement-based material from a store usually on the higher price end, but these are quite affordable: . Very sturdy and great gas exchange. https://www.cb2.com/seminyak-taupe-planter-6.75/s220967

  3. BTW, you do not have to purchase what you break at TJ's I work there, so I know. Just ask an associate to help you with sweeping any broken pieces off the floor. I very sure HomeGoods is the same way, as HomeGoods and TJ's are divisions of the same company. 🙂

  4. I broke something in a store and took it to the lady working there, she thanked me and said that the stores usually have insurance for accidents like this and she appreciates that I gave it to her so no one gets hurt.

  5. Goodwill is one place; another is At Home. But beware – if you buy a light-colored pot like white or beige or something – if it's matte finish – I would highly recommend sealing it on the inside. I bought a really cool white with grey lines on it that developed brown and yellow streaks as I continued to water the plant due to the water seeping through the pot.
