  1. I'm biased, but I think Speckled Sussex hens are the absolute best. Beautiful birds and sweet, charming little personalities! They are the nicest hens I've ever met.

  2. Kinda random question from a city girl who has never owned chickens… anyone can answer: Does owning chickens really attract rodents or is that just a myth? Do the newer chicken coops do a good job of keeping them out with the hardware cloth and all that or what do you do to keep rodents out?

  3. We are just outside the city centre in Sydney (45 minute walk) and just about every 3rd house has a few hens. We’ve been here 13 years and have had 2 lots of ISA browns, but this time we are doing 2 ISA and 2 Australorps. The Australorps (cross btwn Orpington and few other breeds) are the sweetest hens to have around children and are also great layers. Bonus is that they are very well adapted to the Australian heat and cold extremes.

  4. I am a first time chicken owner. I am enjoying the chicks. I got 19 Rhode Island reds, 10 giant black jersey, and 10 freedom rangers. When do dare to let your chickens free range? ( I am working with my labradoodle not to chase and he is doing well) I live in an area where there are coyotes? I also have 6 guinea chicks I got at the same time to help protect.

  5. Hey great watch a few videos and a few others that mentioned the Murray Hatchery and I’m trying to find out if Murray’s ship to the Caribbean or to the USVI??? Catalogs and chicks.

  6. Definately gateway…Have been planning more chickens as a cover for getting a couple of turkeys…Just got 27 austrolorps thinking a dozen more and 2 turkeys….? Do I tell the mrs in advance 😀 …Not if I want the turkeys 😀

  7. If I have the space, I would like to keep 2 breeds, Leghorn for eggs and Silki for meat and brooding. I am having quail now for eggs and meat, since my backyard is small and the neighbors are too close. Quails can give you eggs and meat when they're 42 days old, and they're quiet and heavy layers. The only issue I have is they never go broody. We have to use incubator to hatch and raise them.
