  1. I am so happy I found your channel this year – because you make it seem like an adventure that anyone can have. Your videos encouraged me to actually start, and not just read about gardening. So thank you!

  2. LOVE your channel, but not sure about your carrots…. You said 1 carrot per sq/in. Then said 12 per square foot (a sq foot is 144 sq inches (12×12) – so 144 carrots per sq foot. Just a thought…. Across the water from you over here in ontario. Keep up the incredible work (your seeds are great btw, sprouted perfectly). Take care.

  3. Thank you so much for doing the homework to get this information out there! I actually did this too (before you released this video, obviously!) and your numbers were very close to mine. And hello from Jackson, MI! ❤️

  4. I'm curious about lettuce. The succession planting makes sense, but what are the exact logistics? I like a big mixing bowl-full salad every day, so I want lots of lettuce. I prefer romaine. I kind of hate iceberg. But you said you weren't mentioning romaine but didn't say why. Is it not very nutritious? How would you harvest the lettuce if you succession planted? I think some lettuces you can cut just a few leaves off of it at a time; is that right? Then…what? Do you keep cutting a few leaves off until they're all used up and then move onto the next 5 feet, which should by then be ripe? Or do you let it keep growing and move onto the next 5 feet, allowing the first set to grow back? I've never grown anything but a rose bush successfully so I really don't know how this works.

  5. I am shocked by the fact Americans eat so poorly…we talk about medicare for all and argue about the healthcare system, but simply eating better will improve the health of Americans than any medical system or healthcare system :/

  6. I just came across this episode. I have been planning next year's garden for a while now. I had way too many of a few and not enough of others. Now to find a similar episode of which plants like the same amount of water

  7. Luke, bless your heart. You said the National average and it may vary. Tomato plants, 4 per person. I grew 27 this year!!! lol It's just me!!!!! lol I had tomatoes coming out my ears! But it was wonderful!!!!!! 🙂 I love your guidelines and I love tomatoes! Can you tell??!! lolol BTW, my neighbors and family benefitted too but oh, all those tomato sandwiches and tomatoes in salads and just right off the vine!!! mmmmmm 🙂 Thanks for much for taking the time to do this for us! Hug Cindy and Geneva for me! 🙂 (Geneva was my Mom's name 🙂 )

  8. For maximizing garden space, look into square foot gardening and also vertical gardening. Both are great ways to grow lots of food in limited areas.

  9. You can increase yields by using intersession as well as succession planting. You can half the space required. But then, half the space required is still a lot more space than most people have.

  10. If I learned anything from this video is that Americans eat a sad amount of vegetables lol.
The onions, peppers, tomatoes, and squash all sounded like my monthly totals not yearly.
