One thing I didn't show in this video that a lot of people are asking about is regarding the water pooling. They just cut a couple slits in the poly where the water was pooling. Like I said, it's a radical design.
The climate change nutjobs at the BBC want these banned because they cause slavery.
I’ve been wanting to do this for so long now! It’s great to see a live example!
FANTASTIC I LOVE IT. WOW. I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT PUTTING ONE UP. DO A VIDEO ON PUTTING IT UP AND WHERE TO BUY THE PARTS. ETC. AWESOME. NO I AM NOT GOING TO BUILD ONE. I DO NOT DO MARKET GARDENING. I ONLY GROW A SMALL AMOUNT IN THE YARD FOR ME. I SELL NOTHING. BUT I LOVE THIS CONCEPT. I WANT TO SEE HOW IT WORKS OUT OVER TIME. THIS IS VERY CREATIVE. GREAT VIDEO. ONE OF THE BEST ON ALL TOPICS I HAVE WATCHED OVER YEARS OF WATCHING. THIS IS SO COOL.
I WANT TO SEE AND UNDERSTAND THAT U BRACKET PIN IDEA MUCH MORE. IS THE U BRACKET A STANDARD ITEM WITH GREEN HOUSES? THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE SEEN A BRACKET LIKE THIS.
If the legs of the center half hoops got longer to the middle, and the outside hoops by about half that distance, pooling should be eliminated.
Aside from increased mobility between beds what are the advantages? Price/sq ft? Maintaining 2 sides of one "tunnel" instead of 6 for three tunnels? Time efficiency?
I'd like to understand better how the frame holds together. Also, could one instal a gutter to collect rain water or would that be too heavy for the poly ?
We have a tremendous amount of wind where I live and that would last maybe 5 minutes. It probably will work well where climates are not severe.
Great video.. Especially if you’re in the south and you don’t get snow, you could use that your round..
thanks for sharing this !
I don’t understand the advantage of doing this opposed to having three tunnels.
Cool thanks
Very cool! Where can you buy large amounts of poly like that?
That is radical. But it works.
works until the wind gets stronger
You could make one side higher than the other and collect rain water!
Just like a gutter-connected greenhouse range.
What is channeled?
I see a lot if people question the usefulness of this.
If I understand correctly, the outside edges of a caterpillar tunnel are usually hard to access, because of the lack of headroom.
In addition, spaces are left between tunnels to facilitate their construction and the raising and lower of the sides.
This construction makes more efficient use of that square footage, uses less material and lovers the needed amount of labor(raising and lowering the sides).
It does all this and it utilizes existing hoop structures.
On top if all that a single, larger enclosed volume of air will have greater thermal inertia and be easier heat than equivalent volume in multiple independent cells.
W.O.W. That is wicked!
And its not gonna work if its really windy place. Trust me i tried
Did they specify the price on this huge sheet of plastic?
Can't thank you enough for the amount of knowledge you have provided me! Stay safe, stay healthy, and grow on!
How is it going to tackle snow? 1:05 Oh, you said it here "… not work in a winter scenario with snow …"
Thanks Curtis! Love the detail of the clips at 4:36 that hold the ribs to the backbone and allow for easy setup and breakdown — and also don't give the plastic anything to rub up against and tear!
Just found your channel and subscribed, thanks for the content!
Great idea about the no-too pins. Thanks, Curtis.
Former tobacco plant greenhouse farmer here. The rope will eat through the poly as the wind makes it move back and forth. It would be better to attach the poly to a board that is hip high using batting tape and staples or the channel lock system. From hip high down use a fiberglass drop curtain that can be raised and lowered for ventilation. It will last a decade. There is a crank and rope system for raising and lowering the curtain the full length of the greenhouse..
