  1. Cant you set up traps, skin them and put them in the frying pan.Taste really good 🙂 Sending much love from Norway . Btw, Im a woman named Eli, after my great grand father. His name was Eliezar 🙂

  2. You can grow your own sweat slips. Use a disposable aluminum turkey roster pan and put a little potting soil in the bottom. Then lay the sweat potatoes on the bottom and cover with more soil. Some will rot but some will send up shoots. Once the shoots are about 6" tall pull them off the potato and put them in a container of water for 3-4 days before planting. They will root out more in the water.

My fencing solution for deer and rabbits is a little cheaper because I a cheapskate. 8' foot post with 4' field fencing at the bottom the a few runs of fence wire above the field fencing. For rabbits I run chicken wire around the bottom.

  3. U are so Awesome!!! I wish I had some kinda experienced help getting new areas tilled & in the ground b4 its too late..Immed! We're creating more-new spaces on new property also, way less time for summer crops tho only an hr difference into the mntns. Tryn to get waaay more of our seeds in the ground but between the rabbits, voles-moles? Every critter wandering these mntns & only having but so many starts, its proven much more difficult than the last decade at the old place. Yet its almost the end of May, still rain rain rain here in WV also. Takin it a day at a time, determined to eat this winter! Lovin ur new adventures & seeing ur progress as it goes, rather than others showing after everythings been bought, plopped in then prettified for a "daily update?" lol. Real life at work, fat bunnies, deer etc but we aren't giving up! We havent been able to afford more welded wire for protection nor more seeds this yr during the madness of BS & now zero income for the fam but the starts are goin in & our 6yr old may have to stand guard with her pink beebee gun lmbo jk. God Bless u Patara, James & sons!

  4. Patara, did you see the series on PBS, Frontier Home, back around 2002? Watching that was an eye opener as to how much you need to grow, how much cut wood, etc it took to survive! Wow! What fighters they were to make it!! Thank you once again for all you share with all of us!!

  5. Hi Patara. Grandma put them in the cast iron skillet lol. I'm blessed my rabbits don't bother the garden too much. Now the deer… they're partial to my roses. Do we rename you Mrs. McGregor? 😉
Mama Wren cleaned out my seed trays in the green house. I'm going to have to buy roma plants but am planning to replant some to come in behind the first round.
Be without pour for 3 days. LOL My husband and I react totally different. I'm okay without power, Bob on the other hand is pacing.
You got rain for a couple more days then you should get a few days of sun. I'm over here in SE MO and we're to have our last bout of rain tonight then should be clear the next week. I'm so ready. Like you, we've had more than our share of rain.
Hang in there, girl! We got this. Country Blessings

  6. I live in suburbia and have bunnies in my yard….MARIGOLDS! I have no fencing and they never touch my garden. Marigolds around the perimeter!!! Your garden looks fantastic!

  7. I just got wiped out. Brocolli and cauliflower. Trying to save the one tomato plant it knocked over. I'm putting a fence up around my turmeric and ginger and sweet potatoes. This sucks. But I am cleaning up the greenhouse. I'll have it ready soon.

  8. Totally wish I knew you. You seem like you would be a great friend. It's hard to find friends like you. You're doing a great job and everything that you do God bless you. I've been watching you ever since the plague. You keep my spirits up. And I actually grew a garden. A small one. I live in a neighborhood in Ohio.

  9. My husband planted his green beans four times one year. He would go out to admire the tiny green beans one day and then the next they would be laying on the ground pulled and dead. One day he caught the red robin pulling his green beans! He was mad. Four plantings. He came in and got his gun and sorry to say but yes he blew that bird away. Don't mess with his garden!
