VIDEO: How to Harvest Kale (+ Kale Chips Recipe)

Harvesting kale can be done one of two ways: a cut and come again style where you only remove the largest leaves, allowing the plant to grow, and removing the entire plant (as I do in this video). Harvest early in the morning for best flavor and crispness. If you’re harvesting a lot of kale at once, enjoy this quick and easy kale chips recipe:

– Kale
– Salt, pepper, smoked paprika
– Enough olive oil to lightly coat the surface of each leaf

Bake at 350F for 12-15 minutes until lightly crispy, then enjoy!

  1. I noticed your comment about leaving roots in the ground. I am new to gardening. Do you recommend doing this with all plants? I just harvested some cauliflower and cabbage today and was going to plant some new seeds in the garden in their place. Should I leave the root in the ground even though I will plant a new seed there? Thank you!

  2. I copied a Kale Salad that I had at Jimbo's. Dino Kale, green onions, red cabbage finely sliced. Carrots large grate. They used dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds but I like raisins and sunflower seeds. Easy dressing is apple cider vinegar, whole grain mustard and a little vegan mayo spread. Just the kale, green onions, red cabbage and carrot keeps covered very well in the refrigerator and then add the others as you eat it.

  3. They look good. I made them once n cut them too small. After baking they shrunk n crumbled when I touched them. I'd like to try again. It's pretty much the only way I eat kale. I find it to be rubbery when raw.

  4. Save a handful of that pre-baked kale and put it on top of a pizza with some red pepper flakes. You're essentially making kale chips baked on top of a pizza. YUM!

  5. Thanks thats very helpful. I love kale chips too.
Iv sprayed them with amino acids (keto version of soy sauce) and some Wasabi and its awesome
Also any kind of vinegar with salt
    It doesn't last long
    Iv also tried bbq seasoning

  6. I am in zone 9b, my kale has been growing for over a year now. and today i noticed it was flowering on the tops. ive grown many different kids of kale and even this same type and have never had flowering before. any advice on what to do next.today i cut off most of the flowering tips in hopes of delaying losing these plant altogether. i picked a bunch and will store until the last moment. of course I also made kale chips and soup with the other kale.can i keep letting it grow even if it flowering? or should i just pull it out now? i will let a few flower so i can collect seeds.

  7. I got a kale plant at one of the plant stores at the farmers market, but the leaves started to turn yellow and droop. Is there anyway to revive the plant without overwatering it? And also would this plant be OK to eat?

  8. Hi Kevin many thanks for your informative video. We appreciate your time and information. I use kale & spinach in smoothies very good for my eye sight. I have big problem with pest on my leaves white spots and some yellow circles. How do I get manage my problem. Many thanks
