Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. 21 days. i think people fast for 30 don't they? besides, the whole point of your channel was that you were doing that 365 days, but you wernt at all

  2. G'day and g'luck! I love your videos and they are helping me so much with my new food garden! You are forgetting that beans are a great source of protein and can give lots of variety and go really well with greens like collards etc!

  3. I only just found your channel, through looking for alternatives to wooden raised beds, and although I'm in the uk and our climate very different I already have picked up some great tips. Your vids are great, very informative and entertaining and I have subscribed. I'm about to get an allotment to grow as much as my own food as I can. Good luck with your trial am looking forward to your results. Thank you Mark 🙂

  4. "We'll probably be eating a lot of eggs, because we don't have much protein here" Incorrect, everything has protein, and honestly the human body doesn't need that much of it unless you're striving to be a body builder.

  5. Hey Big Fella,
This will be interesting to see.
Quail, Chicken & Duck for meat with an abundant supply of greens.
The Valencia will be a shade of Green by the time it's over.
A very interesting experiment to watch.

  6. I hope to be self sufficient, and make my own food. I dont like buying meat at the store, but I also think I couldn't be able to harvest my own animal. How do you come around to it?

  7. For a long time, I've dreamt about being 100% self sufficient….
What you have shown me is to be realistic. I'll always need my emergency chocolate, coffee, steak, flour, rice.
I'd now aim to be happy with 60% self sufficient.

  8. This is pretty interesting. Thank you for always adding a bit of humor in your videos. You’re a pleasure to watch and also a great teacher. Thanks for doing what you do.
