Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

Even my summers are too cold for chilies
I found Epson Salts, pruning and Seasol, and my Habaneros and Scorpions give all year round.
That yellow rocoto looks like a tiny yellow apple, awesome.
Great video, thanks.
Quick question, what don't you just cover the garden bed with poly plastic (greenhouse)?
and is it possible to grow chillies in a greenhouse during Melbourne winter?
thanks.
manure, compost and mulch might much more cost them chilies itself
I've never heard of a Big red chili. What is it?
Goodness. Even those huge worms look like they are going to kill you down under. Bet they are lovely creatures though.
Hi from South Africa. I've been growing a few food plants for around a year or two now and my most prolific is one out of three chili plants. It gives me anywhere from three to ten ripe (i.e. red) chilies every day depending on how much sunshine we have daily. Love your videos!
Was that a snake I saw in the raised bed?
3:55 what a cute lil deth noodle, vigorous wiggly little squiggly
Mate love your channel cheers.
Can you advise me on how to stop fruit flies hitting my bell style chili's always getting attacked?
My Thai chili plants fruit is never attacked by fruit flies
What happened to your right arm?
Nice show, I had a Mexican lady in California tell me when I harvest peppers to cut them off and not to pull them, here in Florida I have a Tabasco pepper plant that's 3+ yrs old and still bears lots of peppers, winter months here are mild,I find that if it gets below 50° F they drop their blossoms and never bear fruit again
Hay mate can I transplant chillies in winter
Pepper plants? Pepper trees, I'd say. Excellent content thank you.
earth, people, everything is great
What’s the best harvest you’ve gotten from a jalapeño plant? Because I’ve harvested one I bought a couple times maybe for about 20 including ones I plucked ate and that fell off and according to google 20-35 per plant but now the jalapeño plant has over 60! Little jalapeños, flowers, buds, and bigger jalapeños which is insane
So basically not in nordic winter when we get like 4 hours of sun a day.
In places where you regularly get cold we overwinter tomatoes and peppers without sun to keep them dormant. No sun and freezing temps to keep them dormant
I grow my chillies in pots and have massive issues with ants farming aphids on them. Any tips on non toxic ways to kill off the ants?
I cried when the old chilli got pulled up. : (
Possum ate my capsicum seeding. He found the leaves irresistible.
