  1. HI Luke, my husband and I watch you all the time on our tv youTube channel. We love how informative you are. I watched how you plant garlic, so I ordered some and got it planted yesterday. I know i'm late doing this, but I have chopped up leaves on top to keep the cloves from freezing. Thanks again.

  2. Hi Luke,

Question: I received my seed garlic about two weeks after our last average frost date. We hadn’t had a frost yet; I planted and mulched with 2-3 inches of straw. Two days later the temps plummeted to about 12 F with an inch or so of snow and stayed below freezing for a couple days. Then it warmed up to 60-70 F days again but nighttime temperatures still hovered around freezing. That pattern lasted a couple weeks. I didn’t water immediately after planting, I waited till the snow melted then checked moisture level. There are maybe 6 sprouts coming up out of about 3 lbs seed garlic planted. In retrospect, should I have waited until after the cold snap? Dug up a couple of cloves about a month after planting and they didn’t look rotten, just hadn’t done anything. Anything I can/should do about it now? Thanks!

  3. New subscriber here. I'm new at growing my own food AND I live in the tropics, Guam. And I want to go by way of organic growing. Would you be able to give me guidance in growing my garlic? We don't have seed garlic here either. I'll have to check business like Park Seed for seed garlic.
Our season is Wet and Dry. From about July – December is our rainy season. Jan – June is our hot dry season.

  4. I ordered garlic from you last year. Harvest was good. This was my first time growing garlic. One thing I found is, use less home grown fresh garlic than store bought garlic in my recipes.

  5. so you can't plat store-bought garlic in containers? I live in a senior mobilhome park in socal (thanks for your condolences). no planters and all rocks. Only option is container gardening. can't I just plant cloves in bagged potting soil in a container?

  6. Is there a tool to calculate how many garlic to plant in the different sized grow bags? I have 20 gal and 25 gal? I know they should be 2-3" apart, but how can I calculate this?

  7. Can I plant garlic in planters, if so how do I winterize them. I don't have enough sun in my gardens for them. I grow tomatoes and hot peppers on my containers but, I don't winterize those. Thank you so much. My daughter follows you and she gave me your video.

  8. I didn't even know sprouting inhibitors was a thing because all the store bought garlic and potatoes I buy here (in sweden) starts to grow by itself in the cupboard above my fridge.
