  1. Loved this video. We're heading into summer here and my tomatoes are about to go in the ground. I'm thinking to grow Shishito peppers too, everytime you talk about blistering them my mouth starts watering. So blessed that I got to watch you and learn all through winter, my crop doesn't look as good as yours but I'm learning.

  2. MY FIRST COMMENT!!! I have been watching you for a while and I have to say OMGOOOOODNESS!!! You're so inspiring. I'm up in Southeast Alaska, but I am determined to create a beautiful garden this next spring and am binge watching your channel!! I love it. Thank you for sharing 🙂

  3. Hey Jess! I've been watching your channel for a couple of months now and haven't written before to tell you how much I enjoy you and your beautiful family and fun marriage and of course your amazing farm. I'm in my 60s so don't dream of having what you have in this lifetime. I do try to grow enough vegetables for my husband and I to eat fresh all summer. This year is first time for fall garden. Thanks for encouraging that. Im about to harvest my first ever cauliflower! It seems like magic growing that! Okay.. I'm really writing to tell you about Seminole Pumpkin if you haven't already tried it. You can eat the fruit green like a summer squash but it's a little sweeter and not as watery. The only drawback is it takes a ton of space but it has been producing since early summer and I will probably still get a few more now in late October. I make "fettuccine" with a mandolin using the skin so every noodle is edged in green (very pretty) to use instead of zoodles. It's such a nice firm texture.

  4. Lolol of all the “pests” I can imagine being an annoyance to a deep southern gardener, TURTLES were not at the forefront of my mind hahaha I love it!!! If I discovered that, I think I’d just have a giggle fit and plant more for the muncher next year to thank him/her for bringing me such joy lolol

  5. Love this video! Have you wondered about getting a milk cow? I have pondered it on and off for some time now…? Would you recommend starting off with a goat for milk?

  6. Ever since you mentioned Shishito peppers this summer I have been buying them at the farmers market. I LOVE THEM! I have a fantastic enchilada recipe and I sauté the peppers and serve alongside. Can’t wait to try growing them next year.

  7. I grew up in the deep south. Here's how we ate rutabagas. Maybe you would like to try them this way. I'm pretty sure it's one reason we have fall. It was always my dad's place of honor to make these and bring them to the table. Peel, cube and boil rutabagas in salted water till fork tender and drain. Mash them in same pot, as you would potatoes, with a little water, butter and more salt, pepper to your taste. Have the water about same level with rutabagas. Cook on low heat at a bare simmer for about 20-30 min. Begin to add, in small amounts, tasting as you go, bacon grease, a little crushed red pepper and sugar. Not Agave, Not honey, Not coconut sugar. Not maple syrup. Just plain white sugar. Not brown. It's very important to taste as you go. Allow most of the water to cook out. For reference, if you were cooking 2-3 med rutabagas, I'd start with a Tbsp, of bacon grease and maybe 3-4 Tbsp of sugar. Again, taste as you go. The ratio between the bacon grease and sugar is the skill set here. Best. Food. EVER !!!! Of course, it goes without saying, there'll be a big cast iron skillet of cornbread ready on the table. If you have a pot of turnip greens , well its just soul food nirvana. ENJOY!

  8. When the mornings are dreary and my homeschool kiddos are feeling lazy, I always say “who can blame them?”
It’s actually kind of enabling. Haha. To me and to them
