  1. MIgardener,
YOU are very informative!!! Thank you to the utmost. On video clock-time span > 5:108:40.
Do the evergreen trees, in the background on the other side of the shed, belong to you? Thank you. Howard

  2. I’ve put about 3 inches of horse manure with sawdust in a new raised garden bed with dirt and put cow manure with it to how can I get my plants to grow they are taking so long I put a nitrogen and it to see if that would help. I’m new with this new gardening . And I have a problem with my soil being soft underneath on one bed but it is hard on top what can I do to fix this hope you can help thanks love your shows they are so helpful

  3. My yard…. Front& black yard is clay. Compacted clay. When I try to grow simple flowers…. Perennials / annuals… they die. I amend as I go…. Soil + pine bark conditioner etc.
question: I have large oak trees (7 in front & 4 in back)…. Could they be part of the problem? Taking all the nutrients/water etc?
I am by no means ‘anti tree’. All I want is a nice yard with some trees, hedges, flowering shrubs & flowers. Over the years we have aerated, fertilized, mulched and mowed with the ‘mulching attachment’ ( I forget the name, sorry), seeded etc etc. We have ponding in the back when it rains, tons of moss (yes been treating that) and run off in the front yard.
When we dig… no worms, not even grubs lol). A year or two ago we did have a large infestation of voles – it was a metropolis really. As best I can tell they are gone.
I am a housewife on disability who loves pretty things. I have a yard that always looks like the beginnings of something ( spending every spare dime) in the spring and by mid summer the beginnings never stood a chance. All my research finds amendments that take years or “over time” to ‘help’. I don’t have big equipment nor underground irrigation. So frustrating. Sorry for rambling.

  4. Maybe this q is not for this video topic but always never want to throw away(bought) flowers like Roses, asters once they dry so can i use their petals as mulch or just dry n then add into any soil?

  5. I would like to know about trenching/burying kitchen and landscaping scraps directly into the soil. I would imagine it would have to same long term affect with the added benefit of quickly breaking and amending

  6. Thanks for the info! I’m a newer gardener and tore up some lawn to put in a garden bed. I just put the top soil straight on top of the clay native soil and have had so many issues with the poor drainage and the top soil getting washed away. I only put down annual flower seeds this year so at the end of the season, I’m going to get some compost and rent a tiller to till the garden bed before laying down some mulch. Looking forward to starting again next year with better soil.

  7. You explained the issue of loosening hard, compacted soil so well, and in terms I could understand. I am so grateful that you share you knowledge and experience with others. Thanks, Luke.

  8. Does that mean an island without volcano dusts pouring on the island is loosing soil fertility overtime? since rain is washing the island every year…

  9. I live in Charlotte NC and my yard is hard as a brick!! I have tried everything to get the grass to grow and cannot figure it out but I have put in a lot more studying and working in and I think I have figured it out so we will see!! To be continued!!

  10. With No dig you are supposed to broad fork your beds and plant things like carrots etc to loosen and are supposed to really be constantly adding compost
