Im so excited for spring all the food i want right now and its to cold uhhh
is the little plant cilantro?
I am doing my first fall vegetable garden. I have 6 broccoli, 6 rutabagas, red leaf lettuce, arugula, Swiss chard, and 2 cabbage. The ground hog family got 14 cabbages a few weeks ago — they ate them to the ground. We quickly built fences and so far so good.
"Food that will hurt you" lolololol. This year was my first year trying to grow a fall garden and I learned the importance of starting seeds indoors. We had very warm weather in the PNW until October, which meant the pest pressure for roots was crazy. So I waited, and sowed outdoors…..and I'll be lucky if I can keep these plants alive until spring because they are growing sooooooo slowly.
I've always thought the same thing as you about the tomato cages… i recommend using them for peppers. They work really well.
I find that tomato cages are excellent for peppers and Asian eggplant
Trellis netting is perfect for these plants needing support. Cheaper than cattle panels.
I actually prefer spiralized broccoli stems sauteed with garlic
Is it ok that everyone knows exactly where you live? It doesn't seem safe.
Oh! Big Jims! Those are New Mexico green chiles! Roast them! It makes the flavor SO much better. Plus, it smells amazing, lol.
I think I've mentioned them before, but if not…. whatevs… lol. 😉 Anyway, Living Traditions Homestead uses cattle panels to grow their peppers (her favorite plant to grow BTW), just like they do with their tomatoes, and just clip the plant to the panel once they're big enough…. if I remember correctly. 😉 Anyway, they could tell ya how they do it better than I can (remember)…. meh…. lol. 😉
Can you put the cabbage and broccoli leaves into juice?
We've used the welded fencing like you use for fencing livestock for tomato cages in the past. They've been good for peppers or protecting items outside during frost.
Wow that high tunnel is coming together nicely now! I’d love to have some of that kale ! Wow
I feel your southern cold garden struggle!
How did you make your beds? We are in the process of building our greenhouse for next spring. Thx for all your great info. Your high tunnel Garden looks amazing.
I put in brussel sprouts and this is my first time getting them past the seedling stage before bugs ate all the leaves, so I put them in my raised beds with agribon over it and that has really helped!!! They are so tall now gonna have to stake them soon, I also just harvested some bigger turnips I am also in the same climate like you I am more 7-7A I want to put plastic over my raised beds, I just got some rutabaga seeds from Baker Creek and was thinking about trying to put some direct sew seeds in
You can add a fertilizer tank to your drip line and then a timer. Literally set it and forget it!
You gotta catch those tomato cages at the end of the season on clearance. I got them for 25 cents a peice at walmart one year, and 10 cents another. Was a great score.
I use the 36 inch steaks sold in 12 packs at Lowe’s for like nine dollars and I tie the pepper main stem to it mid season and then that’s all I need to do for the entire year
Make some cowboy candy with the peppers.
I need to know more about that little mobile picking seat.
Live in MN had a wonderful habanero plant which produced a ton, all I did was support the main body with a 1/2in wood stake
Love your high tunnel! And your outfit is on point 🙂
For supporting those pepper plants, what about using the same netting that is used for tall cut flowers like Zinnia’s. Light weight but sturdy
Could you not support the pepper the same way you do the tomatoes?
