Great video, Jeff. Another bonus of the DE is that it keeps fungus gnats in check. Btw, I have one of the pressure sprayers dedicated to Aphid-control!!! The key is to check every couple of days until you get them all. Aphids regroup and multiply at an unbelievable rate.

Neem oil is a safe ingredient to use. But, don't buy the premixed stuff at the garden center. Use cold-pressed neem oil and mix it with a little dish soap in a gallon of water. Always do a test spray. It's a great solution for chewing insects. The summers here are dry so this is a good treatment. I used diatomaceous earth with my containers. I had bought neem oil at the end of the season; but, never got a chance to use it.
My house plants don't have problems with pests that I can tell. I never take them outside. They might like it during the summer; but, I don't want to bring bugs in.
I've used that earth stuff, it worked very well. I tried using ladybugs but they all went up in the grow lights and fried themself's, 5000 ladybugs.

Thanks for another great video, Jeff! I got carried away and purchased a 50 lb bag of DE last year. I guess I'll use it more often now as I began to see some aphids on my greenhouse peppers.
I just spent 3 days "manually " handling the aphids on my indoor kale. You're video was just what I needed! I was about to give up indoor seedlings.
Aphids love sweet potatoes don't they? I am growing slips just for the beautiful vines and they went after one. The diatomaceous earth trick worked like a charm. Thank you for the tip Jeff. It also works a treat for fungus gnats. I did a top layer of dry sand, a good sprinkle of D.E. and then only watered from the bottom – Bam! no more gnats. Oh, by the way, I am regrowing some Fennel – like your celery trick – and so far I have some good sized stems coming up. Still waiting on some root sign though… Time will tell. Spray them with alcohol ! mix 50% water, 50% alcohol , 90% … it will dry the aphids and it will not harm the plant, because alcohol will evaporate ! do this in 3 rounds, use a pocket size sprinkler ! works for covid as well! PS: this recipe will not contaminate the soil, like soap or neem oil!
For indoor plants, I would usually set them in the (empty) bathtub and soak every nook & cranny with the liquid soap & water spray (with a bit of tea tree oil mixed in). After they sat awhile then spray rinse well with water. Outdoors, it can only be done out of direct sunlight or it will burn the foliage. But I always worry that aphids might be hiding in the mulch or soil.
For my indoor seedlings I fill the kitchen sink with warm soapy water and hold the plant between my first and middle fingers, flip it upside down and gently shake it in the water, rubbing the leaves with my other hand, rinsing off and squishing the aphids. It works really well. I'm in a condo, so no outside water for me…the DE and spray soap work well when everything is established outside on my tiny balcony, the aphids here will ignore everything but decimate my sweet peppers (not the hots), and my kale (which I hate anyway, I use it as a trap). No matter what I do, fresh potting mix every year, sterile tools and pots, I grow everything from seed etc, I still get a few aphids inside. I love your content, I love seeing a fellow Canadian gardener (I'm just outside of Toronto).

DE sadly kills other insects that help your plants too and if you have pets use food grade. As it is with humans, bugs show up to break down what is already deficient or toxic. Check soil for deficiencies or excess or they'll keep showing up. Just found you. Your videos are great.
Does it have to be castile soap? Would it work with any soap?
HELP!!! slugs and aphids are destroying my entire garden! I am a first time gardener and I don't know what else to do…I tried a mixture another youtuber showed and I killed off 60% of my corn and damaged my tomatoes. I applied copper tape today for the slugs, but does that really work? I feel very defeated…
