Plastic Forests: This is the company that makes the plastic sheeting in rolls used to make our chicken compost ring https://plasticforests.com.au/ I believe the key to solving our plastic problem is to make recycling all types of plastic easy for everyone and attractive for businesses. Plastic Forests have pioneered eco-friendly ways to recycle soft plastics once thought to be impossible to do – that is the kind of technology and small business ingenuity I love to see!

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I'm in Florida, and I love watching you enjoy your citrus. Unfortunately, I'm not likely to get any new Citrus trees anytime soon.
Sadly, the Citrus Greening issues aren't being fixed any time soon, no matter how much the universities are researching new resistant needs.

  2. Why is it illegal to have rabbits in your state? I understand a homestead in a city. But one in the country, even 1 acre is large enough bcuz they are kept in cages or mobile grow out hutches.
Is it too hot there? Or do you have some native animal that they could pass diseases to? If you have time, I would like to understand your laws.

  3. LOL I can't do okra either. Too slimey for me too.
I love the cool crops & root veggies.
Cherries, strawberries, nectarines (peaches only after peeled, can't stand the fuzzy stuff), blueberries are my favorite fruits I can grow. Also love pineapples but can't grow them too cold here & too much snowtime here in Michigan, USA.

  4. Hi from new hampshire!! Currently growing dwarf gala apple tree, dwarf Valencia orange tree, dwarf Montgomery cherry tree, dwarf Cavendish banana tree, mulberry, raspberry, blueberry, and the ones I learned about from watching your videos I'm experimenting with the garumichama tree and jabuticaba tree!! Not sure if you've ever grown mangosteen trees but I'm also growing lemon drop and purple mangosteen trees ๐Ÿ™‚ so far they're all doing good except my cherry tree :/ I can't seem to grow that tree that grows fruit that tastes like cotton candy that you said Nina likes

  5. Marijuana is actually a herb. Its good particularly in soups brings out the favour. Better than msg. U should grow it on your farm.

  6. Thanks to your enthusiasm and tips .. I am now growing my own veggies.. tomato, onions , cucumber, peppers in California

  7. Iโ€™m late watching this so I just had a couple of comments on Sunday July 11,2021โ€”
I find that brussell sprouts can be used on salads, raw and just sliced fine. They taste like cabbage that way and add a nice texture too.
None of the smells from cooking them.
Excellent job, I have always enjoyed your channel!
I know the history on the rabbits as Iโ€™m sure you do, too.
Some guy imported about 2 dozen, so he could shoot them from his porch! And they proliferated and ate half the vegetation of Australia.
    !!!!!! Amazing lack of foresight.
    Keep up the good work.

  8. i was watching few of your videos and are very good, you show and explain how you make your garden. In my 70's I'm planning to move as soon things get straight here to the mountain and start to do my garden as well. Smaller as your but trying to be self sufficient and good leaving with nature. Will continue watching your clips are good and you do relaxing, easy. thanks. Julio
