VIDEO: What to Intercrop with Climbing Beans to Maximize Yields In Your Permaculture Garden

In this video I share the best plants to intercrop with climbing beans to maximise yields in your vegetable garden. Climbing beans such as runner beans are a fantastic crop that allow you to plant many other edible crops so you can grow as much food as possible, and it is especially useful if you have a small space vegetable garden such as a patio garden. Intercropping, which is also known as interplanting, is a great tool for permaculture vegetable gardeners as it helps encourage diversity in planting and improve the soil health.

  1. Hi Hugh, enjoyed your as always helpful encouraging video. To concentrate on a a few crops can be very useful to a gardener who like me is trying to branch out and try evolving to grow a few more items. Thanks Hugh, super.

  2. This is excellent. I've been doing lots of intercrops this year. But I have been using bush beans and they have big a bit too big. I'm thinking about some different crops to include in different areas (under corn, trellised cucumbers, etc). Please do the series! There are tons of different combinations that could be included.

  3. I use phacelia around my brassicas to shade them in the mid summer, they'll dry up and make good compost at the end of July. I've also notice the slugs cover them and not the brassicas.

  4. Estoy probando ese metodo dentro de invernadero tomate indeterminado con ejotes verdes y lechuga asta aora va muy bien las lechugas ya se estan cosechando el tomate y el ejote estan comenzando a floreser saludos de Oaxaca Mexico

  5. Lovely video! I use interplanting and companion planting to increase yields in my garden. I'm very interested to learn more about what plants work best together to increase yields, boost flavor, and create optimal growing environments for each other. Thank you!

  6. Definitely would love that intercropping series!! I tried to do this exact thing this year but it didn't quite work out too well. Hopefully I can learn and apply this for next year's garden!

  7. More like this please. Very interesting! Would never have thought of using the IBC tank for planting climing beans and will be trying this in my allotment.

  8. These videos are great for my mental health! I can literally feel my anxiety and stress levels subside after watching a few of them! Plus, it motivates me to get out into the garden! Thanks Huw.
