  1. I would love to see a video on pruning an apple tree. I have several but do not know how to prune them so the apples are very small. I am hiring an arborist this year to prune my trees. It would be great to see how to prune them.

  2. Hi, James!
Love your videos. Thank you for sharing what you do. Can't wait to share some pictures with you in the future when my food forest grows a bit.
Q: Can you please share a link for the bird netting you use? I noticed your netting in the background, toward the end of this video. I have about eight fruit trees in somewhat of an "L Shape." By spring/summer of 2022, I am in need of a solution.
    Thanks!
    -Phil

  3. James, I love the joy in your heart when you enjoy your home grow n produce! It makes me happy and smile. I feel the same when I pick my own and I’m more of a newbie. Regular apples are sprayed with pesticides an average of 8 times before we receive them in the store. Yuck!

  4. I love doing comparisons when the wife buys something that we don't have enough of for a recipe. Mint was our most recent. We were making mint and honey tea faster than our plants could keep up with. The grocery store stuff was not worthy.

  5. One of the worst parts of the apple industry is the inconsistencies in the product. If you get 1 honeycrisp from the store once a month, and keep a log, you will notice differences each time. You can even get the same apples from different stores and notice the same thing. Different farmers, different climates, different storage lengths, different picking times, all cause the final product to taste different. This happened to me with the Cosmic Crisp apple that was released out of Washington (they are spending Millions to make sure you can't grow it in your backyard), where i bought it from one store and they were great, went to the store across the street and bought some, and they were lousy.

My trees are not old enough to produce all the fruit i want to eat, but in a few years i likely won't buy fruit from a store again.

  6. Look at the tag on those apples, see where they are from, also, from someone who hauled apples for 16 year from Washington state to Florida for Publix, some apples are gassed and stored at or near freezing Temps for up to two years which effects the taste. The gas puts the fruit to sleep. You can tell those apples because they tend to get small brown spots on the skin from the sugars in the fruit, just like a banana does.

  7. Sansa is a great variety to grow, since the flavor is excellent but rarely offered in the produce section; I've only ever noticed it at Whole Foods, but very rarely. It has a nice golden yellow color.

  8. Nice episode! I think we all take pride and happiness in growing our own fruits and vegetables. I love that we can see that coming from you in this video!
You said that this tree is four years old. How old was the tree when it first began bearing fruits? And how mature of a tree did you start with? Did you get a 1-2 yr whip and pruned it yourself? The tree looks great though!

  9. I just found your channel and I love your passion. The way you talk about your plants is like you're enchanted, like it's magic. I can't wait to learn more and start growing my own food

  10. 10:54 That's exactly what happened to me lol. I started with just one tree and everyday I went there to check it out and meanwhile I was thinking "here I can plant this fruit tree, there I can plant some flowers, over there some grapevines" and now I have a very beautiful place with a lot of different plants and I go to check them out everyday.
