  1. I feel ya with the old rooster…I have an 11 year old hen that lost ALL her feathers this summer every day we expected to find her dead she was still acting fine maybe isolating a little. Fast forward to October she is fully feathered and doing fine, even lays an egg every now and then. Chickens are amazing!

  2. Just recently discovered you, when you put out the weak man video. Trying really hard to make it without a man, now that he's left. Started a you tube channel to try to document, teach, and inspire. Yours is impressive. Thanks.

  3. Seems this discussion applies to human society as well? And, we have sort of “butchered too many of our Roosters”? If ya catch my meaning. Protectors are not docile and meek, and they don’t take well to being “handled”.

  4. I have over 20 silkies, and 20 different breeds of chickens. I had four silkie roosters. This past summer, I lost my favorite silkie rooster, Sammie, to a hawk. Sammie lost his life cause he was protecting one of the Easter Eggers. He was such a sweet boy to me and even let me hold him once in awhile. But his Legacy lives on, I have one of his sons, who looks so much like him!

  5. Can you share your chicken feed? Like what brand or do you mix it yourself. I tried to mix ours with different grains ..we live in SW Colorado so it's cold .your girls look so healthy .

  6. Adore your videos! I have a few questions:

    1. I noticed you mentioned it is ideal to keep 1 rooster to 14 hens and at least 2 roosters for your flock in general. For people who are just starting out and are interested in keeping a small flock initially, what would you recommend?

    2. My area is very high in predator pressure so I will likely have to keep the chickens in the run 90% of the time. I have plans on providing them continuous entertainment throughout their time in the coop, but will this increase the risk of a rooster becoming more aggressive?

    3. Finally, is there a breed of rooster you have generally found to be less aggressive and you would recommend for first timers?
