VIDEO: These Veggies SURVIVED A FREEZE | And Will In YOUR GARDEN Too

We have had a freeze and hard frost here on the farm, so today I am touring you around all the cold hardy vegetables in our fall and winter garden. It can be hard to have faith in the veggies that will survive a freeze for your garden till you see it with your own eyes for the first time, and I think seeing all my happy and delicious crops will make it easier to have the confidence to try it for yourself in your own gardens. So just because the weather is starting to get colder, doesn’t mean it is the end to the garden season!

  1. Just been watching soil life videos and it's actually very important to have living roots in the soil pretty much all year. I won't be leaving my beds empty this winter, so this is a valuable video. All these greens are extremely healthy for you too. Thanks guys…!

  2. Great video as usual! and I agree with some of the comments, I would really like to see a few cooking videos , I know you said you eat simple, but even that is something I think a lot of people would like to see .. maybe u can show us how u cook or even just a collage of meals in a week … something like that ! Are you guys vegan / vegetarian?

  3. I use low tunnels on 4×8 beds, and the chard overwinters and re-leafs in February/March like you said your kale does. I'm further south than you, though–7a. Your greens are so pretty. And so are the frosted tan basil flowers.

  4. OMG!! It just really doesn't get any better than this!! LLLOOOLLL!! I was all set to tell Serena that this type of video is so cool… informative, beautiful to look at, fun to watch, etc. . Then here comes Ian with the icing, I laughed out loud at first, then I actually did feel just a little bit melancholy about all the stuff that was lost! You two are NUTS!! In the VERY BEST WAY! Thanks

  5. I am in shock.Crestfallen. Freeze in Kelowna before Toronto goes against everything I learned in the past 25 years… My few pots (space) still in use, are still producing, beans after lettuce, planted late August… and just harvested the last tomato yesterday….
My freeze champions are the grey dwarf peas, that I started in March for shoots, harvested, survived and ended up planting outside, survived 3 freezing nights in Aprils (the last one -6C) and continued producing…

  6. This video is very helpful! I will check out some of those greens you mentioned. What are you weighing down your low tunnel with? I have been using sand bags with gravel but the bags themselves do not last very long at all (maybe only a couple of months out in the elements). I need to find some more durable bags. Thank you!
