  1. As a cheap (and lightweight) alternative to bagged compost, last year I got alfalfa to ammend my soil. From a less than 4 foot × 4 foot bed, I had kale by the bucket full for weeks and weeks. Much more than the year before with no ammendments.

  2. I love watching your property grow, we are building our up also, albeit much slowrr, so I get a lot of inspiration from you. We recently purchased our first milk cow, so I dont have much hands on experience there, but LOTS with beef cattle, and I know with them, their backside will look like the calf should absolutely fall out if they walked up hill, for a couple days before calving. I have had several, that were like your pigs were for you, where I would SWEAR today is the day, only for it to be a week later.

  3. I compost and I only have 3 small 3×6 beds. I still compost because it is the best soil I have ever felt. It's so soft and loomy. It's also nice and dark. I have stores around me but I rather compost.

  4. I am learning so much about cows! Why do they have the # tags by their ears? This is so cool — maternity ward for cows! I will keep you in my prayers. We need you around as do your family. I can't wait to learn compost as well (fast compost). Thanks for sharing.

  5. Hope you start feeling better with the exercise. Take care of you! You and your family are very loved and blessed. Thank you for so generously sharing your lives with us!

  6. Can't wait to hear what you think about the bagged compost. I was looking at it the other day, and the reviews were so sporadic… people either loved it or hated it. It'll be nice to know your thoughts. Thanks for always giving us great content! Sorry you've been sick, but so glad you're feeling better.

  7. Compost is one of my goals this year too. I am following the 18 day method that Geoff Lawton shared on his channel and I follow Perma Pastures Farm and they use the same process. One thing I am striving for is making closed loops where I can and my other goals are teaching my kids a few skills in the kitchen this year and making more items from scratch To really solidly some of those areas. Thanks for sharing!!! Can’t wait to see the progress!

  8. I am excited to hear what you learn about composting. I have been trying to do it for almost a year but it hasn't been terribly successful. I can't seem to get my ratios right to get it to heat up. You've taught me so much about gardening that I can't wait to learn composting.
