  1. Ya snakes can be in hay. Even in the north. Depending on the weather to how one can do things. Congrats on the years of marraige. I admire what your doing. Your right about finding and making things work for oneself. Hey what do you recommend for cameras and editing software?

  2. I tried the deep bedding method. didn't work for me either. I lIke to clean coop so the chickens are clean and dry. I ended up with mites and lice and had to deal with that. Just easier to keep it clean. I have 8 chickens too. Wink Wink. Who cares what other say is best. I wonder if they tried anything else.

  3. I live in the PNW and i am new to homesteading. My coop is like 4 feet tall and it kills my back to go in and clean it out. I wear a mask because of the dust made when doing so. I use to use hay, then i was given free access to woid shavings. So i am trying them. The shavings have stopped the muddy egg mess. I rake it all out and so far i am just leaving it on the ground and not removing it. There is no smell as of right now. Perhaps when things heat up. But I usually have to lower the hot electric fences and then rake my coop mess across the run and scoop over a fence into a bucket attached to the lawn mower. I had no idea it would be this much work for raising turkeys and chickens. My set up is not ideal. I suppose a barn would be ideal. I appreciate your message and being down to earth. God bless!

  4. we have a run similar and have tried many different solutions. First we initially was using one of those mesh tarps from harbor freight to help allow some sunlight in but the rainy season wasn't good. we switched to their large silver tarps. did the mulch thing, no Bueno. Our best solution was large rocks, larger than river rock and pea gravel. What's nice is there's absolutely no odor at all with this now. also look at using ratcheting straps to hold down the tarp to help preserve it from the wind. hope you find this instillation solves your issue.

  5. I live in south east TN and I've found the best way to do a chicken house is to put a couple inches of concrete down for the floor. I put maybe 3-4 inches of straw n shavings down. I shovel this out to the compost every 2-3 months before it turns to a concrete like mess. I've had ducks n chicken's together and it works pretty good.
