VIDEO: From Lawn to No Dig Abundance in 5 MONTHS | NEW Productive Kitchen Garden for Minimal Effort

In this video of the series, we visit Stephanie Hafferty who has just moved to her new property and has set up her backyard kitchen garden in no time at all using no dig gardening methods. Stephanie has a huge wealth of knowledge and experience of no dig, and has managed numerous no dig gardens over her busy gardening career, not to mention she is also an author. Using minimal resources and pushing the limits with shallow layers of compost, it is amazing how quickly her lawn has turned into a thriving vegetable garden that is already yielding many harvests. I cannot wait to see how this garden matures over the next few growing seasons.

There are many ways to follow Stephanie, and she also runs many workshops and does talks too so the best way to get in touch is via her website: https://nodighome.com/

  1. When you originally spoke about your plans to showcase gardens I thought "oh, that will probably be nice". But this series has completely exceeded any expectations I may have had.
The videos and gardens are amazing. But even more, the pleasure and enthusiasm of the gardeners is such a joy to hear and watch…..so inspiring.
Thank you for a peek into these calm and peaceful worlds, especially at a time when so much around us is in chaos .

  2. I love that you are reaching out and giving us a glimpse of other beautiful gardens and the incredible people that have made them. It's so interesting and inspiring to see how others work towards and achieve food security with the common goal of good stewardship of the land and the animals and insects. Thank you.

  3. Wise words Stephanie. When I started growing my own vegs and herbs I started small, and I have had to learn to back off from myself and the self imposed pressures to do more and more. I have now relaxed and if a crop fails I learn from it and I go buy this veg from a local producer. I am just more mindful about what I am doing, how I am doing it, and not wasting resources. If everyone just did one little thing, what they can the world would be in a slightly better place. However the one thing that I won't go back on is eating mass produced vegs from a supermarket, they don't taste 'right' anymore.

  4. I really love this interview. She really struck a chord with me by challenging my perception of being close loop self sufficient. We all need human interactions in our lives. I never looked at it from a social perspective when it comes to close loop sufficiency. Thank you!

  5. It's been so good watching all the different people you've featured and their gardens. It's refreshing to see the different gardening styles and ways backed by years and years of experience. All that wisdom has been helpful for us who have only been doing it for a few years. Thanks for all you do for us gardeners!

  6. This was an interesting video. I went to her YouTube page. And I saw that she doesn't post very much. Maybe two videos a month at most. And while I don't have to hear from a channel on a daily basis. I expect a little bit more posting than that. Otherwise, it isn't worth my time. If she improves her output and activity on her channel. I might consider subscribing.

  7. I just do not like no dig, 20 years ago I bought a house that I now live in. The previous owner cast a large concrete slab at the back of the house, he did put down builders plastic first, I decided that I don't like the slab so I removed a big piece in 2021 and the grass was alive below the plastic after 20 years. I also started my veggie garden in spring the same year and I dug out the grass and put in borders made of concrete slabs and large bricks, my harvest was very good.

  8. Thank you Huw for introducing to Stephanie who is an inspiring woman with nice energy. Viewing you both from France, we learned so much, preparing our future house with a garden full of live. Thank you !

  9. Loved watching this Stephanie. I would certainly love to chat about gardening if I was living in your neck of the woods, which I'm not. I have been moving towards growing food year round and will watch your channel for inspiration. I also have begun to add flowers amongst my edibles, so much prettier and nicer space to work in.

  10. Fantastic garden and lots of food for thought, thank you. My daughter has just acquired a small garden that is all lawn. No dig is perfect for her, she has small children, but the compost is expensive. Any thrifty alternative ideas? She is keen to grow food asap.
